Then why not become part of the BME volunteer network!
What is the BME Volunteer Network?The network is a team o volunteers who want to
make a positive impact on the lives o black and
minority ethnic amilies o dea children.
Our volunteers speak a variety o community
languages and are rom various minority ethnic
backgrounds. Many o them have personal
experiences o being dea or o having a dea child.
The support they provide varies rom sharing
personal experiences to providing inormalemotional support and language support or amilies
who do not have English as their frst language. They
can provide inormation on various topics and oer
links to other parents or community groups.
Why should I volunteer?Volunteers are a core feature of many NDCS
services and we aim to make volunteering a
positive experience for everyone.
BME volunteers can provide an invaluable service
to NDCS as well as the families we work with.
As a volunteer, you will get: a sense of satisfaction and achievement from
making a difference training in transferable skills
regular support from NDCS and other volunteers
payment of all out-of-pocket expenses
opportunities for personal and professionaldevelopment
a chance to meet new people and make newfriends
an opportunity to give something back to society.
What do I need to become a volunteer? The ability to care for others and show patience,
whilst taking a non-judgemental approach
A BME background and/or the ability to speakor understand a community language
An understanding of and empathy for issuesfacing BME families of deaf children
Regular time to volunteer for NDCS
Commitment to NDCSs vision and values Willingness to provide references and have a
CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) check
Willingness to take necessary training or the role.
