Craters are funnel – shaped pits that form

around the central vent of a volcano

Calderas form when a magma chamber that supplies material to a volcano empties and its roof collapses

• Volcanoes result from magma formed in the Mantle .

A Magma Chamber Is is a large underground pool of molten rock found beneath the surface of the Earth.

• Exposure to ash can be harmful. • Infants, elderly people, and people with Bad

conditions like asthma • Ash is gritty, and always unpleasant.• Small ash particles can abrade (scratch) the

front of the eye.

Volcanic Gases

• Most gases from a volcano quickly blow away.• heavy gases such as carbon dioxide and

hydrogen sulfide can collect in low-lying areas.• Other volcanic gases include hydrogen

chloride, carbon monoxide, and hydrogen fluoride.

.

Volcanic Gases (#2)

• Amounts of these gases vary widely from one volcanic eruption to the next.

• People who are close to the volcano or who are in the low-lying areas downwind may be exposed to levels that may affect health.
