How to…

Blogs are one of the toolsavailable in the VLE that allowstudents to contribute to andcollaborate in a course.

Go to Control Panel > CourseTools > Blogs.

Blogs can be Individual (for eachstudent), Course (for all students)or Group (shared between groupmembers). Individual and CourseBlogs can be created here. GroupBlogs are created in Control Panel> Users and Groups > Groups.(See the How To guide on UsingGroups).

Click Create Blog.

Add a name, descriptive information(such as the purpose of the Blog)and choose whether to make itavailable and when.

Depending on the purposeof the Blog, chose whetherit will be individual to thestudent or for the overallcourse.

You can also choose howentries will be grouped –weekly or monthly.

The Blog can be assessed ifappropriate.

Click Submit.

Blog settings can be editedat any time by choosingclicking the arrow to theright of the Blog title andchoosing Edit.

Click on the Blog title to goto the Blog content.

Click on Create Blog Entryto add a post.

You can navigate betweenall students’ Blogs. Studentscan comment on oneanother’s Blogs.

There are also update icons,and alerts on new contentwill also appear in theGlobal Navigation Menu.

When creating a new Blogentry, add a name, text, links,images or embed video.

You can also add attachments.

Blog entries are indexed byweek or month, as specified.The Index highlights thetime of entry, number ofposts and new content.

Staff and students cancomment on one another’sBlogs. This can beanonymous or not.

Blogs are created in theControl Panel and madeavailable in one of thecontent areas (e.g. LearningMaterials). Click the Toolsmenu then choose Blogs.

You can either link to theBlogs page or directly to aspecified Blog. You can alsocreate a new Blog here.

Add a title, descriptive informationand set availability.

A link to the Blog will appear in thecontent area, at the bottom of thelist of resources. You can re-orderits position by clicking anddragging. Students can now click onthe Blog title to access it.
