Create a PeerMark Assignment

The VLE @ GSA

How to…

PeerMark is a tool within Turnitin. It allows students to engage in peer review through the VLE.

To create a PeerMark assessment, Click Assignments > TurnitinUK Assignment.

Choose Paper Assignment to first create a link for students to upload a piece of text.

Add an Assignment title and a Point value (if appropriate).

Set a Start Date and Due Date.

Post date needs only be set if using GradeMark.(See How To guide on Using GradeMark).

Click Optional Settings.

Enter any instructions students may require (due date, format, etc).

Choose whether submissions will be accepted after due date (these will be marked as late).

Choose whether an Originality Report will be generated and how many submissions are permitted (one, multiple).

Though it is possible to exclude small matches, bibliographic detail, etc. from the Originality Report, it is advisable not at this stage as a filter can be applied to toggle these on and off when viewing the report itself.

Decide whether students should have access to the Originality Report.

Discussion surrounds submission to a repository. For formative assessments, no repository submission is recommended. For summative, submission is at the discretion of staff.

Choose which resources the text will be matched against.

The Assignment has been added to the specified content area.

Return to where you have just created the Turnitin Assignment. Choose Assessments > TurnitinUK Assignment again.

This time choose PeerMark Assignment.

Select the assignment that you have just created from the list.

Decide on start, due and post dates for the PeerMark submission. If there are any compatibility errors with the original assignment, you will receive guidance on how parameters can be amended.

Click Save & Continue.

Click Edit to choose how many papers you wish each student to review, and if you wish to include self-review in the assignment.

Click Save & Continue.

Click Add Question to build prompts for student feedback.

You can add a question and specify a minimum answer length.

Click Add Question when finished. Questions can also be saved to a library for future use.

Add further questions through the same process if required. Questions can be edited and reordered.

Click Save & Finish when complete.

The Assignment has been added to the specified content area.

Students will now see the original Turnitin upload link (to submit their text) and the PeerMark link (for peer review).
