1) Definition of the problem

• What are video games?• Which genres of video

games are there?• What is violent video

games?• Do children become more

aggressive after playing video games or are aggressive kids more attracted to violent videos? http://onviolence.com/?e=105

violence fighters

• a kind of computer

controlled games where

players interact with

objects displayed on a

screen for the sake of

entertainment.

b) Which genres of video games are there?

• Video game genres

based on their game play

interaction instead of visual

or narrative differences.

c) What is violent video game?

• Violent video games

focus primarily on

combat involving

projectile weapons,

such as guns and

missiles.https://americanstudiesmediacultureprogram.files.wordpress.com/2014/11/cod-child.jpg

violence fighters

• More and more kids are playing

video and computer

games — especially ultra-violent

ones that are top sellers.

• Research shows that children are

also spending increasing amount

of time playing them: an average

of 13 hours per week for boys and

5 hours for girls.

d) Why have we chosen this topic?

• According to the recent studies, especially violent video games arouse many problems related to psychology of children.

• Such as aggression, cheating and lack of self control (Bushman, 2014)

http://izquotes.com/quote/104250 violence fighters

• Many studies have linked viole

nce in TV shows and video gam

es to violent behavior

• However, when states have tri

ed to keep under-18 kids from

playing games rated "M" for m

aturethe proposed restrictions

have often been challenged su

ccessfully in court.

• Do children become m

ore aggressive after pl

aying video games or

are aggressive kids mo

re attracted to violent

videos?

violence fighters

• In the new study, Dr. Craig A

. Anderson, Ph.D., of Iowa St

ate University in Ames, and

his colleagues looked at how

children and teen's video ga

me habits at one time point

related to their behavior thr

ee to six months later

violence fighters

http://edition.cnn.com/2008/HEALTH/family/11/03/healthmag.violent.video.kids/

• In every group, children who were exposed to more video game violence did become more aggressive over time than their peers who had less exposure.

• This was true even after the researchers took into account how aggressive the children were at the beginning of the study

• It is a strong predictor of future bad behavior.

• Long term exposure to violent

video games may cause lower

empathy in some children and

it is a possible sign of desensiti

zation. Yet, it cannot be gener

alized to all children who play t

he games (Funk et al, 2003)

Literature Review

violence fighters

https://goldenbearflyer.wordpress.com/2014/08/02/open-book/

• Violent video games appear to increase aggressive thoughts and feelings, physiological arousal, and aggressive behaviors, as well as to decrease pro social behaviors (Gentile & Anderson, 2003)

• Violent video games is more than violence in television because they have become so realistic, particularly since the late 1990s. (Gentile & Anderson, 2003)

violence fighters

http://edition.cnn.com/2008/HEALTH/family/11/03/healthmag.violent.video.kids/

• It is observed that the frequency of hostility and argument with teacher, physical fights and poor performance increases in the adolescents who are exposed to excessive amount of video game violence (Gentile et al, 2004)

• Mediational pathways were found such that hostility mediated the relationship between violent video game exposure and outcomes (Gentile et al, 2004)
