Viking CertainTeed Asphalt ShinglesThe superior shingle look
Whether building a new home or replacing an old roof, choosing the right roofing solution is one of the most important decisions you can make. Your roof both offers protection from the elements and sets an aesthetic tone; it must stand the test of time. Viking Roofspec offers a comprehensive roofing solution to meet all your requirements – CertainTeed Asphalt Shingles
Asphalt shinglesAn asphalt shingle roof is completely waterproof and highly durable. Asphalt is one of the world’s most widely used waterproofing materials.
CertainTeed asphalt shingles are composed of a strong fibre-glass mat base. Asphalt is applied over this and ceramic-coated mineral granules are embedded in the water-resistant asphalt. These ceramic granules come in a wide range of colours and provide excellent UV resistance.
LongevityThe first line of defence against the elements is your roof. It is vital that you choose a roofing system that will protect your home.
100 years of world-class manufacturing and rigorous lab testing have produced our shingles. However, the most meaningful test results are their exceptional performance history. CertainTeed shingles have been subjected to decades of weathering in some of the world’s toughest environments.
All Viking shingles have been assessed by the independent laboratory officially recognised by the uncompromising American legal system – ‘Underwriters Laboratory’ (U.L.), assessing their collective resistance to: wind uplift; UV; and impact.
Durability• Ice dam technology and multiple
overlapping shingle layers ensure the roof can endure the greatest of temperature extremes.
• 3M stone coating and fibreglass reinforcing provide unequalled UV resistance.
• Mildew and salt atmosphere resistance . • High impact resistance.• Warranted for wind resistance of up to
205 km/h.
Potable WaterViking CertainTeed asphalt shingles meet the AS/NZS 4020 standard for testing of products used in contact with drinking water; therefore complying with the New Zealand Building Code’s (G12) potability clause.
Lightweight roofViking CertainTeed offers a strong and lightweight roofing solution. A CertainTeed roof is less than half the weight of a concrete tile roof, lowering extra structural requirements costs, while generating less stress on the building.
SustainabilityCertainTeed shingles are manufactured with slag residue from the oil refining process, converting waste into a robust construction material, therefore, reducing land fill waste and greenhouse gas emissions.
At the end of their serviceable life, these shingles can be overlaid, avoiding the dumping of inorganic materials. Lighter colours in the range reduce the energy required to cool a building.
Healthy HomeRoof ventilation is an important element of a home’s design. Without effective ventilation, excess heat and humidity can render costly consequences, such as damp, mould and rot.
The Viking CertainTeed system uses a proprietary ridge vent offering the most efficient low profile ventilation system in the market. Its external baffle design ‘pulls’ air out of the roof from both sides of the ridge, so, your home will benefit from correct ventilation in both summer and winter.

CraftsmanshipTo ensure that your roof performs to the highest standard, our shingles are installed by a nationwide network of Viking Approved Applicators selected and trained to install your roof.
Warranties of SubstanceViking CertainTeed shingles offer product warranties from 30 to 50 years. Not all warranties are equal. Viking Roofspec’s warranties are backed by the Tiri Group, an established, reputable New Zealand company with an annual turnover exceeding $300 million. But despite this significant financial backing, more importantly, Tiri will honour its warranties in the unlikely event of a product issue.
Viking Full System WarrantyFor further peace of mind, certain projects may qualify for Viking’s comprehensive Full System Warranty, which covers both the materials and the installation in one document. For further info visit www.vikingroofspec.co.nz

VentilationRoof Space Ventilation
ROOF VENTILATIONRoof Ventilation is an important element of a home’s design
and construction. Without effective ventilation, excess heat
and humidity can cause serious problems with costly long-
term consequences. In both Summer and Winter, your home
will benefit from correct ventilation.
During SUMMER months, ventilation helps keep a roof
space cool. It helps prevent hot, moist summer air from
distorting the roof structure. It also stops shingles from
deteriorating prematurely. What’s more, fresh air in the roof
space makes a home much easier to cool, which can result
in lower energy costs.
In WINTER months, ventilation helps reduce internal
moisture. It stops water from backing up under shingles,
damaging insulation, and rotting the roof structure itself. It
also helps prevent ice dams from forming. Ice dams occur
in areas where snowfall and cold temperatures are common
and pose a special problem because they prevent melting
water from running off the roof. They can even cause leaks
inside the home, resulting in structural damage.
Skellerup CertainTeed Shingles will only be Warranted when a functioning ventilation system has been correctly installed as per our INTEGRITY ROOF SYSTEM
UNVENTEDMoisture rising up throughout the house condenses in the roof, causing damage to studs, insula-tion and other materials.
VENTEDA vented roof allows moisture to escape through the ridge vent.
WINTER

SuperStrand Sarking SubstrateThe structural integrity of Viking CertainTeed asphalt shingles is enhanced through the installation of a treated timber sarking substrate onto which they are fastened.SuperStrand Sarking is an H3.1 treated strand board designed and manufactured in New Zealand specifically as a substrate for asphalt shingle roofs. SuperStrand Sarking’s benefits far outweigh alternative substrates.
LightweightViking Roofspec’s pitched roofing systems installed over SuperStrand Sarking with a total weight of up to 25kg/m2 may be considered ‘light-weight’ for design purposes in accordance with NZS3604.
A more rigid roof SuperStrand is more rigid and spans further than plywood, therefore, minimising: the propensity for the board to sag between trusses; the visibility of sheet joins; and any unevenness in the structure, creating a more rigid, flatter and sharper looking roof.
Safety This durable and light-weight substrate, braces the entire building; negating the need for extra structural requirements for heavy-weight roofing materials.
