Weekly Newsletter – 18.09.20
Successful Start:
We have been delighted with the successful start that almost all of our pupils have made to the academic year. Pupils have gained many merits for kindness, outstanding work and excellent effort. Every day, pupils are awarded praise cards for being the ‘Star of the tutor group’ or ‘Star of the lesson’ – please remember to check Classcharts and your child’s bag in order to celebrate their success with them!
Merits – 10.09.20 – 17.09.20:
Lunch: A reminder that our school canteen is now serving pupils. The current menu is attached. All parents will need to have a Parent Pay account – any queries regarding this should be directed to Karen.Goodfellow@willows.cardiff.sch.uk
Uniform:
If there are problems regarding uniform, please contact your child’s Welfare Officer by e-mail to explain. Families will have until October 5th 2020 to straighten out and discuss any issues – from this date, the pupil will be sent home to rectify the problem if they break the rules.
For families who may be struggling financially, there is a grant available. The details can be found here: https://gov.wales/pupil-development-grant-access
Parent Governor Vacancy:
There is currently a vacancy for one Parent Governor on the School’s Governing Body. Your child should have brought a letter home containing further information and a nomination form. Further copies can be obtained by e-mailing Karen.Goodfellow@willows.cardiff.sch.uk if you are interested.

Attendance and Punctuality:
Please ensure that your child attends school every day on time. Excellent attendance is vital in ensuring their future success. Many studies show that high attendance throughout school leads to high achievement. Similarly, the school gates close at 9.27 a.m to ensure an ordered start to our day. After this time, your child will be marked as ‘late to school.’ Please encourage your child to attend regularly and on time. These good habits will stand them in good stead for their college applications and for the wider world of work in the future.
Please be assured that all necessary risk assessments and safety procedures have been put into place at the school to minimise the risk of Covid-19. However, if your child is displaying any of the three main symptoms:
-High temperature -Persistent Cough -New loss of taste or smell
then, please do not send them to school. The government advice is to isolate for 14 days or until they receive a negative test result. It is important that you keep the school informed of any absences. We ask that all medical appointments are taken outside of school time where possible. If this is unavoidable or your child is ill, please send a letter / e-mail to your child’s form tutor or Welfare Officer at the nearest opportunity. If your child receives a positive Covid 19 test result, it is important that you inform the school reception immediately on 029 20414243. Once again, thank you for your support. We appreciate all of the lovely comments we have received regarding the children’s return to school and their positive experiences.
