Brits Go Wild For Apple Live Event • Apple held a much anticipated ‘special event’ in September • The ensuing excitement (and some derision) put it way out of
reach of other brands this month. • Samsung also did well by latching on to Apple’s attention with
its own social marketing. • Tesco came 4th but probably owing to the accounting scandal
that made headlines in September. • Meanwhile, its rival Waitrose had a particularly strong month. • Tech, Retail and Entertainment brands are some of the most
talked about on Twitter in the UK. • But several finance companies are also performing well among
the more ‘fun’ social brands.
Apple’s Magic • Even without an official Twiber account, Apple’s presence on the social network is strongly felt.
• We recently found that the tech brand is popular across many demographics as well.
• The new iPhone 6 and the Apple Watch quickly became two of the most talked about things on social media when they were unveiled at the event.
• But once on sale, concerns about the sturdiness of the new phones also spawned the criEcal hashtag #Bendgate
Samsung Trolls Its Rival • It has become something of a theme for Samsung to tease Apple whenever a new product is released.
Perhaps this is a form of flabery, but it does work. Social media audiences love these rivalries and oIen retweet them more than the actual ‘Ads’.
Tesco Has a Month to Forget
The Supermarket made the headlines for all the wrong reasons in September. Shares have clumped 45% this year and recently became embroiled in a scandal and was forced to admit it had overstated profits by £250m
While Waitrose is Winning • Waitrose meanwhile was gelng involved with one of the UK’s most popular hashtags to drive engagement on Twiber
And they seem to be doing well elsewhere apparently…
Finance is Going Social
Tech
Retail
Finance
Cars
Food/Drink
Entertainment
Fashion
Finance companies are making a big impact on Twiber, despite perhaps being seen as less suited to the environment than brands in other categories. It goes to show: Anyone can make Twiber work for them…
