• Intel 945GM

• 512 MB RAM

• 8GB SSD Storage

Installation

• Download Ubuntu 8.04.1 LiveCD image

• LiveUSB creator for bootable USB drive

• Install as normal Ubuntu

• Replace old Linpus Lite

• Take about 1 hour due to slow SSD

Good Things

• Compiz works out of the box

• Great Thai support

Bad Things

• No wifi

• Too old Atheros driver, use the newest one instead

• Don’t forget to turn wifi switch on

• Sound problem

• Use latest ALSA

Slow SSD

• ~12 MB/s write, ~30 MB/s read

• Reduce write activities

• put logs to tmpfs

• Tune system parameters

• Add more RAM

• 1 GB is around 800 THB

Netbook Remix

• Additional packages

• ume-launcher

• go-home-applet, window-picker-applet

• maximus, human-netbook-theme

• Conflict w/ compiz

• Beautiful but not efficient on small screen

• Modify it!

• Reduce spaces between menu items

• Use smaller icon size for dialog

• Tangerine instead of Human icon set

Tweak Firefox

• 1024 width is OK, but 600 pixel height is not

• Use small toolbar icon

• FlashBlock, TinyMenu, Fission, Ubiquity

• TraceMonkey?

Flash Player

• Cannot use webcam under flash 9

• Use Flash 10 beta instead

Twitter

• Twhirl has problem with maximus

• Current mitter is buggy

• TwitterFox

Suspend/Hibernate

• Suspend (to memory) works as expect

• Cannot get hibernate working
