Dear Members:
It’s Spring! The vines have new leaves and dreams of “What might be” for the fall
harvest are popping into heads. There are spring sales on wine kits and many of us are
looking for good sources of anything we can ferment. I’m as guilty of it as everyone
else. Yesterday I was eyeing the strawberries at Kroger, $1.50 per pound.
TVOS is your organization, I’m your President and we are your Board of Directors, but
we work for you! You are welcome at any board meeting. Our next board meeting is
at the end of the month, April 30th
at 11a.m., hosted by Papa Turney’s Barbeque.
Immediately following the meeting many of our members, and some potential
members, will be attending the Toast of Tennessee at Nashville Shores on the eastern
edge of Davidson County. I’m confident that there are other great wine festivals our
members would enjoy, but don’t know about. If you know of a wine festival near you
that you believe the rest of us would enjoy, please share it. If enough of us decide to
attend, we might qualify for a discounted rate.
The Summer Board Meeting will be held at Summer Fun Day on Saturday, July 23rd
, at
Sprout Springs Winery in Blaine, Tennessee. Please block out that date on your
calendar. In years past it has been a day of good wine and even better fellowship. This
year will be no exception. Alice and Chuck Belt are hosting us at their beautiful
winery. Take a moment to visit their website and look at the photos
(http://www.spoutspringestates.com/index.htm), their place is incredible.
I’m looking forward to buying some of their Cabernet Sauvignon.

Requests for Proposals went out to three Nashville hotels last week for the 2017 Conference.
I’m looking at the weekend of Friday, March 10 through Sunday, March 12. The first set of
prices came in last night, and it was higher than we will want to pay. If you have a contact in
the hotel industry that might be willing to work with us, please email me. One of the issues
on pricing is number of persons attending the conference, the lower the number of people
registered for the conference the fewer people those costs are divided among and the greater
expense for each member. I need your help to create a program that inspires the maximum
number of members to register and attend the conference in 2017. We usually set up two
tracks of classes, a wine making / fruit growing track and a tasting / experiencing track.
Please email me (emmett_hunt@hotmail.com) with courses that would inspire YOU to
attend the conference next year. I’m already researching speakers and I’ve been looking at
those chosen to present at the conference hosted by Wine Maker Magazine for inspiration on
our wine making track. For the tasting track I anticipate asking Chef Brian Cochrane to
present again.
My mind keeps coming back to something Jim Newton said a few years ago,
“If we have fun and invite folks to have fun with us, membership will take care of
itself.” So let’s do that! Let’s make wine, grow fruit, drink wine, laugh big, and share the joy that
this hobby brings!
