Who was James?

One of several half-brothers of Christ (Matt 13:55)

Didn’t believe in Jesus initially (John 7:5)

Saw the resurrected Christ (1 Cor 15:7)

Became part of the Apostolic group (Acts 1:14)

and prominent in the Jerusalem church (Acts 15:13)

Who were his readers?

‘the 12 tribes scattered among the nations’

James 1:1

Jewish Christians who had been dispersed due to persecution

Why was he writing?

to people who had already chosen to follow Jesus Christ and were now

asking the question

“How do we live now that we are saved?”

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face

Our faith will always be tested

what is now being done, the saving of many lives

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those

who love God and are called according to his purpose for them

Ask God for wisdom

But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a

wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is

double-minded and unstable in all they do James 1:6-8

Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive

the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him
