Going to alexandriahouse to help out gave me anidea of where the moneythat we had made from
pillow fight went to, and idefinitely approve! overthe course of this year, ihave lent a hand at alexan-dria house twice. the firsttime i went to alexandriahouse, we woke up early inthe morning and drove toalexandria house, which isin downtown LA. when we gotthere, we started organiz-ing clothing and toys fromthe shed. later in the day,we moved in the new refrig-erator, except there wasone problem, it couldnt fitthrough the doorway! how-ever, luckily, a worker atalexandria house helpedmedismatle the door of thenew refrigerator so that
it would fit. Afterwarwe all headed to the kiten to organize the food!
The second time
went to alexandria houi helped out with pullout the weeds from tbackyard and with hochores such as vacuumand wiping down the furture. to end my second tto alexandria housewent back to the shedhelp organize more cloing and toys. overallenjoyed my experienworking at alexandrhouse because i can psonally help out raththan just donating moni would recommend any member to volunteer alexandria house at leaonce in their ucla caree

What Rhymes with Service?More Service!
Jacob Virtusio, general member
From February 15 through to Febru-ary 17, UCLA CKI had their quarterlyService Marathon, except this wasonly the second part of their amaz-ing service efforts. They helped outa variety of people from the LA FoodBank to furry friends to even thegeneral environment on this threeday service spree. Unfortunatelydue to my schedule, I could onlyattend two events but as they say,Every little bit counts!
On February 16, I went to my first
event of Service Marathon. We wentall around campus singing songs, talking about life, and piggy-backriding back and forth from trash canto trash can, digging for recycla-bles that people forgot to put intothe right container. The best part, itwas late at night, from 11pm until 1am, when not a soul is to be seen,
except us. There were creepy crawants and menacing screams from oof our members, Lisa, because sgets scared easily. For the mopart, it was a fun bonding experence and a nice way to get to knthe campus a little better, especialy since I never really went f
into south campus, despite beingsouth campus major.
On the last day of the event, went to the beach! You can guess it, had a ton of fun in the morning suWe walked along the shore and foumany miniscule pieces of trash well as random large pieces, aeven better, we found a plastic baand a sandcastle starfish. Unfort
nately, we decided to throw thaway since there was no one arouto claim them, but they were an eciting finds, nonetheless. Afterlong morning at the beach, I finalgot back to my daily life on campand was exhausted from the amaziadventures I had during the ServiMarathon.

VCN (Vietnamese Culture Night) was a great experience twatch. There were lots of performances such as traditionadancing all the way to hip-hop dancing. There were lots o
singing and instrumental music as well. It featured a showhere it showed a young boy who drops out of high school twork in a restaurant. He also has a brother who is diagnose
with autism. The young boys mom doesnt quite have patiencwith his autistic brother and often scolds at him. However, wlearn that the mom was treated badly by her father in thpast and soon learns to have patience for her son. The evenpromoted awareness of autism and taught us to have patiencwith people. Its hard to tell whether or not someone is diagnosed with autism. In the end, I had a great time because therwere a lot of Circle K people there to support the people thawere in it and got to hang out with people.

Vitnamese Culture night (VCN) wasabsolutely spectacular and amazing! The 34th annual VCN was full of laugh-ter, surprises, and tears. The eventstarted with a vietnamese speech aboutwhat it meant to be vietnamese and whatvcn was about. After speeches and thankyous, the curtains opened up. The playwas about a family surrounded byautism, but at the same time, it was muchmore than that. The story revolved around two
vietnamese-American brothers, andrewand christopher and showed how strongfamily love and bonds are even whentimes are tough. The actos did a great jobconnecting with the audience. As youlearn about everyones life and past, you also learn about the horror of thephysical abuse the mother suffers. Therewere many scences that tugged at yourheart and made you want to scream andcry. For example, when the bullies start-ed to take advantage of christophers
illness, I wanted to get off my seat and start beatingthem up. But there were also scenes where you could tellnotice how much the family loved each other. Futher-more, the scene that made me gasp was right beforeintermission because it left on a huge cliffhanger. inthat scene, you see andrew leave the house because hecouldnt take it anymore from his mother. this leads to achain of events where andrews grandfather needs helpwith his medicine and usually andrew would give it tohim. instead, christopher tires to help him. with a scis-sor in his hand, you hear off-stage someone falling andthen a thud. then all of a sudden the lights turn on andwe would have to wait another 30 minutes to find out
what happened. genius! Also, there were other performances that wentalong during the play or during transitions. Some of themos notable performances that I saw were fromawechords, traditional dance, non-traditional danceand vsu modern. I want to just congratulate all thecirlce k members that participated in vcn because theperformances were in sync and just amazing. at the end,the family was able to reconcile and ended on a god notewith a beautiful light festival. something that i reallyliked and wokred for me , was the integration of viet-namese and english words within the play. All in all, itwas a great and emotional experience and i would recom-
mend attending future vcns because i definitely will!!

Going to theAmazing race, ithought it would bea fun afternoonroaming aroundcampus and west-wood solving clueswith my family. Ihad no idea what iwas getting myselfinto.
as soon as we
got our clues, allfamilies startedrunning. my family, the kla$$y koopas, and bo bo bowserrangers decided togo for a differentstrategy. our fami-lies decided tofigure out all theclues first, and
then map out stra-tegically how toget from one loca-tion to the nextthe fastest. Mostclues were prettyeasy, but therewere a few, like thefirst dorm oncampus, that tookus a lot ofgoogling.
once we fig-ured out all of ourlocations, off wewe went! at first, wewere neck and neckwith bo bo bowsers.either we would getto a location firstor they would.Eventually wedeviated from thesame route anD
lost them.I was
exhaused as soonas we started therace! who knew thati would do so muchrunning?! I wasdefinitely notdressed properlyor prepared to dosuch extreme phys-ical exercise. If i
had a choice, iwould have walkedthe whole thing. However, we hadsome extremelyenthusiastic mem-bers of the family, namely jong andjuelline, whowanted to runeverywhere.
As soon as we gotour final picture,
we all sprintedback to jansssteps. As we gotcloser, we saw thatwe were the firstfamily there, which
caused us to runeven faster to vic-tory. By the time wegot there, we wereall exremelyexhausted andsweaty, butrelieved that ourhard work payedoff.

January DCM at USCDenise Huynh, General member
Circle k is the only time and place were usc
and ucla can be friends. so, when the january di-visional council meeting location was an-nounced to be at usc, i was excited to attend andsee my metro division friends! as an icebreaker, charles made us grab toilet paper and tell funfacts about ouselves. the rules were, the moresheets you grabbed, the more questions you haveto answer. luckily, i had done this activitybefore and only grabbed one sheet while othersgrabbed handfuls (we learned a lot of interest-ing about people). the dcm proceeded like normal;we went over past events, announced futureevents, and most importantly talked about dis-trict convention!!!!!! charles, our lieutenant gov-ernor, even brought snacks for us to eat andmingle after the event. afterwards, Ucla circlek decided to take advantage of the sunny after-noon and had a mini photoshoot in front of everyfountain we saw on campus. we even took a pic-
ture with tommy the trojan in our la gang sign.all in all, it was a fun afternoon, and a nicegateaway from our campus.

1. What is yourname?Gautum Gupta
2. What year are you?First Year
3. What major are you?Computer Science
4. Why did you decide to join circle k?I really enjoyed my four years in key clubwhen i was in high school, and i figured CircleK was a great way to continue doing what i love
while making new friends and easing myself intocollege.
5. What is your favorite Circle K event? So far, Id say Pillow Fight was the event that wowed me themost - an event thats all about fun but behind the scences israising thousands of dollars for those in need. It always amazesme to see so many people come together for a cause.
6. What is your favorite Circle K related memory?
One of my favorite is also one of my first: after cki south, we all headed tokbbq to finish off the night. i was introduced to kevin (my current dad, tooand. . . I quickly learned its not too unusual for him to end the night with iccream all over his face.
7. What are some things (hobbies, sports, clubs, etc) you like to do outside ocircle K?Mostly just lots of photography! Although Im not yet part of any otheclubs, i like to spend my time taking pictures, learning programming languages, or sleep. (I sleep a lot. . .)
8. If you could travel anywher (fiction or real) where owuld it be and why?All and any parts of Asia - Id love to just travel around the nations and experience all the different foods and culture. If possible, Im hoping to evestudy abroad there some day!
