7:30 a.m.Matthew 14:22-33 (NKJV)
22 Immediately Jesus made His disciples get intothe boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent the multitudes away. 23 And whenHe had sent the multitudes away, He went up on
the mountain by Himself to pray. Now whenevening came, He was alone there. 24 But theboat was now in the middle of the sea, tossed bythe waves, for the wind was contrary. 25 Now inthe fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea. 26 And when the disciplessaw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a ghost! And they cried out forfear. 27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, Be of good cheer! It is I; do not beafraid. 28 And Peter answered Him and said,Lord, if it is You, command me to come to Youon the water. 29 So He said, Come. Andwhen Peter had come down out of the boat, hewalked on the water to go to Jesus. 30 Butwhen he saw that the wind was boisterous, hewas afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, Lord, save me! 31 And immediatelyJesus stretched out His hand and caught him, andsaid to him, O you of little faith, why did youdoubt? 32 And when they got into the boat, thewind ceased. 33 Then those who were in the boatcame and worshiped Him, saying, Truly Youare the Son of God.
11:00 a.m.
2 Chronicles 20:1/14-23 (NKJV)1 It happened after this that the people of Moabwith the people of Ammon, and others with thembesides the Ammonites, came to battle againstJehoshaphat.
14 Then the Spirit of the Lord came uponJahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son ofBenaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, aLevite of the sons of Asaph, in the midst of theassembly. 15 And he said, Listen, all you ofJudah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you,King Jehoshaphat! Thus says the Lord to you:Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this
great multitude, for the battle is not yours, butGod's. 16 Tomorrow go down against them. They will surely come up by the Ascent of Ziz,and you will find them at the end of the brookbefore the Wilderness of Jeruel. 17 You will notneed to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord, whois with you, O Judah and Jerusalem! Do not fearor be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them,
for the Lord is with you. 18 And Jehoshaphabowed his head with his face to the ground, aall Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem bowbefore the Lord, worshiping the Lord. 19 Thethe Levites of the children of the Kohathites aof the children of the Korahites stood up to
praise the Lord God of Israel with voices loudand high.20 So they rose early in the morning and wenout into the Wilderness of Tekoa; and as theywent out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear mO Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem:Believe in the Lord your God, and you shall bestablished; believe His prophets, and you shaprosper. 21 And when he had consulted withthe people, he appointed those who should sinto the Lord, and who should praise the beautyholiness, as they went out before the army anwere saying: Praise the Lord, For His mercy
endures forever. 22 Now when they began tosing and to praise, the Lord set ambushes agathe people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seirwho had come against Judah; and they weredefeated. 23 For the people of Ammon andMoab stood up against the inhabitants of MouSeir to utterly kill and destroy them. And whethey had made an end of the inhabitants of Sethey helped to destroy one another.
6:00 p.m.Acts 27:42-44 28:1-5 (NKJV)
42 And the soldiers' plan was to kill the
prisoners, lest any of them should swim awayand escape. 43 But the centurion, wanting tosave Paul, kept them from their purpose, andcommanded that those who could swim shoul
jump overboard first and get to land, 44 and trest, some on boards and some on parts of theship. And so it was that they all escaped safelland.
1 Now when they had escaped, they then founout that the island was called Malta. 2 And thnatives showed us unusual kindness; for theykindled a fire and made us all welcome, becauof the rain that was falling and because of the
cold. 3 But when Paul had gathered a bundle sticks and laid them on the fire, a viper came because of the heat, and fastened on his handSo when the natives saw the creature hangingfrom his hand, they said to one another, Nodoubt this man is a murderer, whom, though has escaped the sea, yet justice does not allowlive. 5 But he shook off the creature into thefire and suffered no harm.

STOP THE CUTS!
Last May, Congress passed a budget
resolution requiring the congressional
appropriations committees to develop
legislation that would reduce spending by $212
billion over 10 years. Currently, the budget is
in the "reconciliation" process where
committees put final spending numbers on the
programs within their jurisdiction. Committees
must report those figures by the week of
October 17th. The committee bills will then be
merged into a single "reconciliation" bill.
The reconciliation bill includes cuts to
Medicaid, which are expected to exceed $10
billion, and cuts to food stamps of $3 billion.
In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) for the
elderly and disabled is slated for cutbacks, as
are many more programs, including farm
subsidies, student loans, and TANF
(Temporary Assistance for Needy Families).
This budget reconciliation bill will cut to the
core of programs that make up the fragile
social safety net for poor and low-income
Americans. To send a message to Congress to
stop the current budget reconciliation process
and reconsider the proposed budget, log on to

them that now is not the time for budget
reconciliation. Call (800) 426-8073 and ask to

God Told Me To Lie!
Would you believe anybody who sa
that to you? Would you believe anybody
who told you that God told them to tell a lie
That is the latest from this Administrations
arsenal of Believe it or not.
George Bush has claimed that he w
on a Mission from God when he launched
the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq. This
alarming news is given to us by a senior
Palestinian politician in an interview that w
be broadcast by the British Broadcasting
System later this month.
Mr. Bush went to an Israeli-Palestin
Summit in 2003, four months after the Unit
States invaded Iraq. One of the delegates to
that summit, Nabil Shaath was in attendanc
the summit. Mr. Shaath was the Palestinian
foreign minister at the time.
Mr. Shaath reports, President Bush
said to all of us: I am driven with a missionfrom God. God would tell me George, go
and fight these terrorists in Afghanistan. A
I did. And then God would tell me, Georg
go end the tyranny in Iraq. And I did.

Does any of that scare you? Given the
fact that we all know it was nothing but a pack
of lies that led this country into the war with
Iraq that has now caused the death of 1,950American boys and girls, does it sound to you
like God would tell someone to lie to justify a
war and a preemptive strike?
If you think that is a chilling reality,
consider this, in that same summit, Mr. Bush
said: And now, again, I feel Gods words
coming to me, Go get the Palestinians their
State and get the Israelis their security, and get
peace in the Middle East. And, by God, I am
going to do it!
Many African American Christians can
look at those facts and not get upset. I look at
that quote, however, and it causes me grave
concern.
This is the same Administration that
prayed with Tony Blair during 2002 at the
Presidential Ranch in Crawford, Texas. This is
the same Tony Blair who said that Mr. Bush
was cooking the books to make the facts fit
the Administrations policy. It was at that
ranch in Crawford, Texas in 2002 that the
invasion of Iraq was agreed upon in principle!
Ewan MacAskill writes about this in
the Friday, October 7, 2005 edition ofThe
Guardian. Pick up a copy today and let me
know if you, as a person of faith, can read what
it is this Administration is saying and then hold
it up against Gods Word and come away
unperturbed.
Think about it! Then pray about it!

Stewardship
What You Dont See Is What You Get
Pretend that you want to raise carrots, but have
never seen them grow before. You just knowwhat they look like in the supermarket afterplanting the seeds. You water, weed and watchover your garden to keep away rabbits, butweeks go by and you dont see carrots! Youdprobably want to give up.
One day, a friend offers to help harvest yourcarrot crop. Sorry, you say glumly, theres
nothing but some green leaves. With one tug,out pops a large carrot! All your work hadproduced something, you just didnt know it.
Stewardship can be like that. The Easter playyou spent many hours rehearsing may inspiresomeone to rededicate himself to Christ, but hemay not say so. The student who recieves yourdonation of school supplies will never tell youhow her grades improved. Even the shut-inmembers you go see might not let you knowhow much your visit meant. Feelingunappreciated can be discouraging.
But God knows what youre doing. And thatmeans something very important to Him.Remember that The Lord loves a cheerfulgiver! He can turn your efforts intotremendous returns even if you dont see them
at all.
