TRANSCRIPT

TRIANGULATED STOOLS

This book is about a flatpack stool design, that looks like an extruded

triangle.

Be careful, it’s riveting (the story, not the stool).

It all started when the Art Center College of Design Eco-Council decided it wanted to have furniture in the school’s rooftop garden.

But this book will focus on its pre-rooftop life...

Over the course of 12 weeks a total of 10 students participated at varrying intervals in the design of these stools.

prototype phase 2 output - oct 2013prototype phase 4 - dec 2013

As the stool design was getting refined by the main team, an adventurous commando attempted to visualize what the stools could become next if a BUNCH of flat pack parts were to be made available...

They were designed to fit into the school’s ecosystem, they were designed to:

- provide shop training - (uses all the basic machines)

- provide a platform for collaboration - (the production is meant to be split up)

- support inventivity - (the stool is totally hackable)

- be easy to fix -(each part can be independently replaced)

they were also designed for:

DISASSEMBLY

HACKABILITY

TRANSPORTBILITY

PLAYABILITY

EPILOGUE—

The stools now live around campus, much like the deer, trees, sun and clouds, they’ve become part of

the environment.

They could become part of yours too, if you so desire, the blueprint is on page 16.
