within the architectural field so that I may one day achieve my goal of becoming a practicing architect. As a person who is deeply interested in the arts, I not only enjoy architecture, but also photog-raphy, music, craft and language. It is my life’s goal to fuse my love for the arts with my entrepreneurial spirit so that I may achieve self-filfilling success.

Project Type: Studio Project

Project Duration: 2 months

Description:

The Antigua Public Library project is one designed to explore the issues faced with designing a pub-lic space for the tropics. Issues of materiality, cli-mate, scale and relevance to urban context were all important in the design process of this project. The project seeks to form a bridge between the urban environment and the people of Antigua through in-novative design techniques.

The main design generators for this project stemmed from the site analysis as well as the prelude project, f.e.m (forces, edges and memory). On site the existing guinep tree was the most noteworthy feature. It provided shade and a place to rest and as such it should be preserved. The fact that the site was at the corner of two significant streets was also important. the corner ought to be celebrated as it could assist in funneling persons into the building to be designed. In combing both the notion of the tree and the corner, there was a direct relationship. When standing at the corner looking into the site, one would be directly looking toward the tree. As such an axis was created by these two design generators.Views were also considered in the design as well with the most significant views being the ebenezer church, the st. john’s cathedral and the harbour, redcliffe quay.
