The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

HLC IS A DEDICATED AND DESIGNATED DOFE

CENTRE.

Opportunity for all.

Mr Roberts has a vision, that in the future, ALL of our students at HLC, will be given the opportunity to gain their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze and Silver awards.

This is a fantastic opportunity, for you to

start your journey and gain one of the most

desirable, recognised qualifications that

businesses look for.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

WHAT IS DUKE OF EDINBURGH?

A Duke of Edinburgh's Award is so much more than a 'pat on the back' for completing a programme of activities. It is recognition of a young person’s successful journey of self -discovery and development, renowned by employers and universities alike for the qualities young people have who've achieved a DofE Award.

Its balanced programme develops the whole person - mind, body and soul, in an environment of social interaction and team working.

There are three progressive levels of DofE programmes which, when successfully completed, lead to a Bronze, Silver or Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award.

THE DOFE – SHAPING YOUR FUTURE

DID YOU KNOW THAT THE SKILLS YOUNG PEOPLE GAIN WHILE DOING THEIR DOFE WILL HELP THEM GET A JOB?

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award5

WHO WE HELP…

Our community.

Help it grow, let your efforts resonate

throughout our school.

6 The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

WHO WE HELP

For your Bronze

certificate, we have

decided to dedicate

our efforts to helping

the younger children

in our community.

Many of you have

younger siblings or

family in our schools

primary phase, or at

least know of

someone who does.

It is with this in mind, that volunteering your

time in after school clubs and sharing your

knowledge with our primary children, will

help and support their learning and in turn,

this will benefit our entire community.

WHAT'S INVOLVED?

Volunteering

Mr Roberts and Mrs Griffin are agreed, that the

positive impact and benefits to our younger

children will be invaluable, through your support

of our primary after school activities.

These would include: Maths, English, Sports,

Reading, Cooking, Dance and many more.

As DofE organisers, we feel that this voluntary

action would be very accessible to you all. It

would not impact your weekends, nor will it

inconvenience your parents, having to take you to

other places.

WHAT'S INVOLVED?

Physical

This really is a very simple one. So long as the

activity is physical and makes you sweat, it

counts. Again, as your DofE organisation we feel

that this can be exceptionally well managed within

school. All you would need to do, is join an after

school club for 1 full term. This could be: Dance,

football, netball, athletics, swimming and the list

goes on.

Skill

In this section, you need to learn something new.

12 weeks (1 full term). We will be running a St

John's 1st aid. This aspect of expedition is

compulsory and would be beneficial knowledge

for your EXPEDITION.

WHAT'S INVOLVED?

Expedition!!!😍🤓😊👍

👌The one you are all waiting for.

You get to go on expedition. This is where you

and your team use all you have learned and put it

all together.

Over the period of your Bronze award, you will

have undergone training days and weekends in

the wilderness, learning how to read a map and

use a compass with pin point accuracy.

You would have gained such attributes as

resilience, commitment, self motivation and

teamwork. All of which you will now rely on, as

you spend a self sufficient night under the stars.

COSTS INVOLVED.

Document title from Header and Footer details

There is unfortunately a cost involved.

£100.00 We are aware this a lot, but I will explain and

hopefully justify it.

Your DofE team here at school are qualified to support and

assess, your DofE award from start to finish.

For the expedition, HLC can provide all of the expedition equipment needed for a safe

expedition.

We can provide all the kit necessary for expedition. However, a lot of participants

like to have their own boots, sleeping bags

and waterproofs.

We would request £50 deposit upon committing to your Bronze DofE. Followed by a second payment of £50 the following month.
