Prof. Krishna PalemRice University

Krishna V. Palem is the Kenneth and Audrey Kennedy Professor of Computing at the Department of Computer Science at the George Brown School of Engineering at Rice University. His research interests while focussed on all aspects of embedded computing, include adaptive architectures and computing, algorithms, compiler optimizations, embedded systems, low energy computing and nanoelectronics. He is the founding director of VISEN center at Rice University.

Alesha Unpingco is a recent graduate from UCLA and has worked with the UCLA Volunteer Center for two years as their Web & Social Media Strategist. As former Site Coordinator and Director of Marketing for the university's largest student-run mentorship organization, Project Literacy, she quadrupled the size of the program and increased UCLA student involvement in underserved communities. Alesha aims to contribute her strong passion for social justice, social media, and technology, and is very excited to be part of such an innovative effort to revolutionize education.

Philip Yenawine has been engaged in museum education for thirty years; for ten years of those he was director of education at MOMA, NY. He writes about art often focused on connecting people to it, especially children. He is co-founding director (with cognitive psychologist Abigail Housen) of Visual Understanding in Education, an educational research organization that develops and studies programs using art to teach thinking and communication skills.

Dominik Zotti is an Associate Expert at the United Nations in New York. He focuses mainly on international development issues and accelerating the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). He is increasingly convinced about the importance of education in this effort, and as a former (social) entrepreneur always looking for innovative ways that link technology to development.

Joel Arquillos is the Executive Director at 826LA, a nonprofit dedicated to helping underserved youth express themselves through writing. Prior to relocating to Los Angeles, Joel worked alongside 826 cofounders Dave Eggers and NÌnive Calegari as Director of National Programs for 826 National. From 1998 to 2006, Joel taught social studies in the San Francisco Unified School District at Galileo Academy of Science and Technology. Joel believes students want and need access to safe and creative learning spaces in order to thrive intellectually.
