Humanism• Idea that you focus on your life (Humans)

• Adopted many classical Greek and Roman beliefs

• Sought fulfillment in daily life

• Believed all people had dignity and worth

– Valued individual achievement and creativity

Trade• Exposed Europeans to other

cultures and ideas sparking curiosity

• Allowed for the exchange of new products, opened new markets, and increased wealth

• Brought on the plague

Black Plague• Spread throughout Europe and killed

1/3 of the population

• Increased wealth amongst survivors and allowed for social mobility

• Encouraged living for the “here and now”

• Caused people to go against the Church
