Title: Director of Hockey Position: Volunteer Reports to: Local Association and Chair of the Grass Roots Committee The Director of Hockey position is a new volunteer service position within an association and will be appointed annually by the president of each WAHA sanctioned association. Mission: The mission of the Director of Hockey is to support the efforts of the USA Hockey American Development Model by assisting head and assistant coaches within an association to successfully implement ADM best practices. As a reminder, the ADM is a long term athlete development model for all ages of play 6U-Adult. The Primary functions of the position are to:

Help coaches implement the American Development Model

Serve as a liaison between WAHA Coach in Chief, WAHA Grass Roots Committee and local association coaches. Association Director of Hockey should have regular communication with association coaches.

Know and understand the ADM framework grounded within the principles of Long Term Athlete Development. Be able to effectively articulate LTAD principles to youth hockey administrators, coaches and parents, as well as to rink and league administrators.

Assist WAHA Coach in Chief in arranging clinics, demonstrations and seminars.

Understand and help disseminate resources and support materials from the WAHA website and USA Hockey website.

Make recommendations on new resources and information needed to drive the acceptance and success of hockey development at the association level.

So what will a Director of Hockey do?

Make recommendations on new resources needed to drive the acceptance and success of hockey development at the association level.

Specific Duties May Include:● Work with Player Development/Coaching Committee to implement and revise team practice plans. ● Work with association recruitment coordinator to provide entry level programs, including HIP, Try Hockey for

Free, Learn to Play, Bring a Friend and others. Lead weekly on ice Learn to Play Hockey Sept-Oct and HIP Oct - April.

● Attend, at a minimum, one practice for all teams, at least monthly during the season.● Ensure all coaches meet all USA Hockey Coaching Certification requirements.● Provide clear goals and objectives for player and coach development with regular updates and communication of

GBAYHA coaching guide.● Communicate to players, parents and coaches WAHA Player Development opportunities.● Ensure that association is promoting age-specific skill development in all of their programs.● Organize and develop workshop and on-ice clinics for coaches before and during the season.● If desired by head coach, assist in developing an age appropriate off ice training program.● Report monthly to association board. ● Assist coaching committee in recruitment and selection of coaches.● Lead pre-season skating and skills sessions.● Lead/assist head coaches and coaching committee in tryout process and selection of teams.
