Traveling in Italy on a Budget

Taking a trip to Italy is an adventure everyone should try!

Unfortunately, many people can get

intimidated by the idea of hopping on a plane

and flying to Italy because they think that they may need to empty their entire savings to be

able to afford to go on vacation here…

Well, we’re here to tell you that it IS actually quite possible to go to

Italy without breaking the

bank!

Flights and Airfare

When planning out your vacation

it is best to know which season it will

fall under.

For example, summer is a

“high” season.

This means…

More travelers.

More people. Higher prices!

During the “low” season…

Less crowds. Less queues.

More savings!

Don’t worry, though, because visiting Italy in autumn or winter is no less

exciting!

Accommodations

The same rules for airfare apply:

Higher numbers of travelers =

higher demand for supply of services =

hotels and vacation rentals can dictate their prices.

If travel during high season can’t be helped, book your rooms well in advance

for discounts!

Or try out other accommodation types:

Hostels

Short-term Room Rental

Camping

What to Eat

Good quality food for only a few

euros can be very easy to get if you know where to

look!

Your best bet is to simply walk

around a bit and look for the local

trattoria or osteria. These

tend to be small, hole-in-the-wall,

family-run establishments

that serve amazing local

food.

Rules to Remember When Dining Out:

• Don’t eat near or at tourist hotspots.

• Avoid establishments that have a “tourist menu” or people out front trying to grab passersby to get them to step inside.

• Remember that sitting at a table costs extra and usually has a separate, higher-priced menu

Rules to Remember When Dining Out:

• Don’t keep buying bottled water at every turn! Keep a refillable container with you, and use the drinking fountains.

• If possible, buy ingredients from the market and make your own food.

• Try out delicious Italian street food!

Sightseeing and Getting Around

Be aware that combined passes for

museums and points of

interest are often

available.

• You can get passes that allow you to use local transportation such as trains and busses.

• Some cities offer tickets that let you ride as many times as you want within a set number of days.

• There are train tickets that also double as bus passes.

If you need help with getting a

pass, just head to the tourist

information office, your hotel’s front

desk, or talk to your travel organizer

Traveling in Italy on a budget is completely doable and can also be

a unique, fun experience!
