“ThinkUKNow Cybersafety Education Program”
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
ThinkUKnow Cybersafety Parent Workshop
ThinkUKnow Australia is a cybersafety education program that
educates parents, carers and teachers of how students are
using technology, the challenges they may face online, and
how to help them overcome these in a safe and ethical way.
This workshop was last run at our school in 2018 and was well
received by those that attended.
This year the workshop is being hosted by Winston Heights
Public School on Thursday 2nd April from 6pm-7:30pm and will
be delivered by a local police officer. If you would like to attend
the parent workshop, please RSVP by clicking on the link:
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/T89H7CY
For more information, you can visit www.thinkuknow.org.au.
Thank you to Winston Heights Public School for hosting this
great parent information session.
Winston Hills Public School Uniform Shop
At Winston Hills Public School, we are extremely lucky to have
a Uniform Shop that is run completely by volunteers. Having a
voluntary shop means that extra funds are raised for the
school. Uniform Shop profits are donated back to the P&C,
and the P&C can use the money to purchase items that
support our students.
If you are able to help out, please drop into the uniform shop
and speak to our volunteers.
Scripture and Ethics Classes
NSW public schools allow time for Special religious (SRE) and
Special education in ethics (SEE), where authorised teachers
of approved providers are available. I would like to thank
Mrs Rooke for all of her organisation to get it started for the
year. A big thank you to Sonia Taunton for her organisation of
the Ethics Program and to our local churches for their support
of the school.
Due to the large demand, the Ethics program is looking for
more volunteers. Please contact the school if you can help.
Information can be found at www.primaryethics.com.au.
Kindergarten Best Start Results
At the start of the year, all Kindergarten students took part in
the Best Start Kindergarten Assessment for literacy and
numeracy. This assessment gives the school a snapshot of
literacy and numeracy skills as they enter school. A parent
report will be sent home to provide information about your
child.

PBL – Week 5 & 6
This fortnight’s PBL focus is about being safe by playing the
right game in the right place e.g. handball games in Area A,
soccer in Nature Area. Students are reminded about this
focus area both in assemblies and class. Posters have been
put up around the school to emphasise this fortnight’s focus.

Voluntary School Contributions
Annually, we ask parents to support their children’s education
through the payment of a voluntary school contribution which
is used to provide vital equipment and resources to enrich the
educational experience for each student.
Whilst these contributions are voluntary, we rely considerably
on them to provide valuable resources for the school. This
year again we ask for a $40.00 for a single student or $50.00
contribution per family. This can be made by Cash, Cheque
or using the online payment system (P.O.P).
I stress that payment of the school contribution is a matter by
individual parents and carers to decide and is entirely
voluntary. Our school would greatly welcome your
contribution, as this will enhance the resources made
available to all our students.
Zone Swimming
I would like to wish our swimmers all of the best as they
represent our school at the zone swimming carnival to be
held at Waves on Thursday. We are very proud of how our
students represent the school.

FROM THE DEPUTY
School Clean Up Day
What a super job from our amazing WHPS students last
Friday for the Schools Clean Up Day. It was good to see how
enthusiastic the students were to keep our school clean. Well
done WHPS!
Year 6 to 7 High School Forms 2020
Year 6 students will receive an Expression of Interest form
later this week that will need to be completed by parents and
carers. This form must be returned to the class teacher (not
the office) by Wednesday 18 March 2020.
Please note that your child’s designated local high school, as
determined by your address, has already been indicated on
the form.
It is very important that the forms are returned before this
date as processing of information begins immediately.
Student Leaders Induction 2020
Last Thursday’s assembly, students from Year 1 to Year 6
who gained a leadership position for the year were officially
inducted at assembly. The smiles on their faces when they
proudly received their badge was wonderful to see.

Celebrate Harmony Day
At
Winston Hills Public School
On
Thursday 19th March
On this day we celebrate the theme of ‘everyone belongs’
and cultural respect for all. We would like to encourage all
students to wear either
• One ORANGE item of clothing to celebrate
harmony at our school. Ideas might be orange
socks, an orange head band, an orange shirt or an
orange hat. The remainder of the uniform will stay
the same with only one item being replaced by
something orange.
OR
• Their Traditional National Costume.
Orange is the colour chosen to represent Harmony Day.
Traditionally, orange signifies social communication and
meaningful conversations. It also relates to the freedom of
ideas and encouragement of mutual respect.
Have a look at the Harmony Day website for more
information: http.www.harmony.gov.au

Mentors: I know lots of our Performance band kids are keen
to be mentors to our training band children and we are still
planning on implementing this, but we’re just getting the
training band settled into the swing of things first. We will
notify the children when we’re ready to have them join
training band in the hall for their rehearsals.
A reminder that rehearsals are from 7.45am-8.45am.
Please feel free to email me if you have any queries on:

BAND NEWS
Well, we’re all back into it now, the band program is fully up
and running for the year. All three bands have started
rehearsals and all the tutor’s details have been issued so that
you can organise your child’s lessons. Please ensure that
your child has a regular weekly tutorial booked in with either
one of our tutors or a tutor of your own choice. Remember
that having a weekly lesson is part of your commitment to
band.
Below is the list of tutor’s emails, as originally stated in
emails, please contact them directly to organise your child’s
lessons. I want to thanks Mrs S Nyugen for all her work
getting the classrooms all organised for the tutors to use and
also thanks to Mr Byrne and Tere in the office for sorting out
all the paperwork and getting all the contracts drawn up so
that we can get into it.
