Fo r a number o f ye a r s , " Gr a n n y," as she c a l l s h e r s e l f , has devot ed much o f h e r t im e t o t r a v e l l i n g t housands o f m i le s f o r guest appearances a t va r i o u s f o l k f e s t i v a l s such as New port , t he U n i v e r s i t y o f Ch ic ag o , and t he 1972 N a t i o n a l Fo lk F e s t i v a l a t W o l f Trap (rem em ber?). She s in g s t r a d i t i o n a l songs, unaccom panied, i n a t r a d i t i o n a l vo c a l s t y l e .

F o l k l o r i s t Roger Abrams s e ve r a l ye a rs ago issu e d a book about Almeda and h e r m usic c a l l e d A S'tngev and Her Songs. She has appeared on albums o f t he A t l a n t i c Sou t hern H e r i t a g e Se r ie s and P r e s t i g e ’ s Sou t hern Jo u rn e y S e r i e s , b o t h rec o rd ed b y A la n Lomax. She has a f i n e so lo album on Rounder. An e a r l i e r one on Vanguard i s now, u n f o r t u n a t e l y , out o f p r i n t .
