The Post Parade
My fellow Legionnaires, I would like to invite you to our monthly membership meetings. They are held every second Tuesday of the month. I would like to see more involvement in our meetings. Everyone’s opinion is important to improve our membership to the Legion. The Legion is the backbone to support our brothers, sisters and their family. I hope to see you in November. This year we will be honoring our Veterans on November 9th, 2019. We are honored to have Brig Gen Copes as our guest speaker this year. A special dinner will be free to all Veterans and everyone else may order the special dinner at cost. Dinner will start at 6:00 p.m. with our guest speaker at 7:00 p.m. Please bring the entire family and to support our Veterans. On Veterans Day, November 11, 2019, at 8:30 to 10:30 am there will be a free breakfast for all Veterans. All others are asked to donate for breakfast. I would like to thank everyone for your kind donations of food and clothing for the homeless veterans!

To all our Family members - I hope everyone is doing well. We had a very busy spring and summer, starting with the Indianapolis 500. We have several activities scheduled in the Club Room in the next few months and I’d like to mention a few. Our Legion Stew started last month and will continue through June. It is always the 1st Tuesday of the month. Everyone that works on cooking and serving the stew are volunteers so no payroll that night and all profits go to the Post. Last month we didn’t have a good turn out. Hopefully it was a combination of being the first of the season, and it was 92 degrees that day. We serve from 5 to 8 pm. November 9th will be our Veterans Dinner. All Veterans eat for free. Dinner will start at 6 pm. This year it will be in the Club Room. The guest speaker starts at 7pm. On Veterans Day November, 11th the Riders will serve a free Breakfast, from 8:30 till 10:30 The bar will also be open and stay open all day. We are having a Country Western theme night on Saturday, November 16th . The Cornfield Mafia Band will play from 7 till 11 pm. Our Children’s Christmas Party will be on Saturday December 14th, from Noon till 2 pm. This is a giving party. All children are asked to bring something for the homeless Veterans. Socks, shirts, stockings, hats are always needed There will be a lot of things for the kids to do. Santa will be there along with one of his Reindeer. The Ladies from our Auxiliary have sponsored this party for the past several years and they do an excellent job. There will be a signup sheet in the main Lobby. Saturday, December 21st, we will have our second UGLY SWEATER party. DJ, Park Ave. will play that evening. We are planning a huge NEW YEARS EVE PARTY this year at the Post. All of the details will be finalized shortly. Please make plans to celebrate New Years Eve with us. You won’t be sorry. Thanks to Dave, Kelley and their Staff - they really do a good job. Also, thanks to our Volunteers. We couldn’t do it without you. Please attend your monthly membership meetings and PLEASE SUPPORT YOUR CLUB ROOM. THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS POST 500

Post 500 was the scene of family fun Oct. 12 for the first Fall
Festival. The windy Saturday included free hot dogs, a bonfire,
hayrides, pumpkin decorating, bounce houses (that the wind
tried to carry away a few times), a corn hole tournament, craft
fair and music. It was a great day to invite the community to
our Post. Thanks to all Legion staff, Auxiliary and Legionnaires
who volunteered to make the day extra fun and special for
attendees.

Happy Holidays! We have some great days coming up with Veterans Day and the parade. It’s a day to celebrate our Veterans and show why they are so important to everyone. I hope you all give your Veteran a hug every day. Don’t forget the Veterans Day Dinner at the Post. We are helping once again with the Kids Giving Christmas that the Post will host on Saturday December 14th. The kids are asked to bring an unwrapped new gift for a homeless Veteran. We will have boxes in the front hallway to collect new clothing or food items for the Veterans until that Saturday. Please remember why we are free in this country and help the less fortunate.
The Auxiliary membership has started out with a bang we now have 58% paid! We reached our 50% mark by September 30th. This is the first time we have done this in 4 or 5 years. If you have received your renewal notice, please mail it in or come by the Post to pay your dues. We had our early bird drawing at our October meeting and the winner was Flora Cain. She won the $200.00 so remember to get your dues in early. Remember after December 31st you are delinquent and can’t get your National magazine or your Hoosier Auxiliary News. Also, when the new key cards are given out you won’t be able to get one unless you have your 2020 dues paid. Don’t forget to buy some jars for holiday gifts. I hope to see you at some of our Craft Fairs this Fall!

Riding season is almost over….. Another great one in the books! Our Chapter participated in many of the events and meetings this season. We were set up and selling merchandise at the Legion Fall Conference and did a bang-up business. Our State ALR meeting was held at the conference in October. It was a good meeting with a large turnout. We passed the new draft By-Laws and Constitution and sent it to Committee. We also elected officers for 2020. We had our last meeting with the SAL at 500 to come up with fundraising ideas that both groups can do together since we both have limited membership. Watch for future fliers and announcements about these events. The American Legion Riders of Indiana will be participating in the Veterans Day Parade again this year. The parade will be on Monday, November 11 at 12:00 noon. Any Riders in the state are encouraged to join us! We will be leaving from Post 500 at 10:00am. Breakfast will be available - 8:30-10:30 am. No charge – free will donation. Our next State meeting is January 11, 2020, when we will be installing our 2020 officers. We will have our merchandise set up and ready to sell. Please stop by and see us. 2020 dues are due before December 31. Get paid up now so you don’t fall behind. Dues may be paid to the Post bartender. Keep your receipt until you get your card. The Riders continue to support the Post and Post activities. We look forward to everyone there! Our regular monthly meetings are the 4th Tuesday of each month at 7:00. Please note that due to Christmas Eve, our December meeting will be on December 17, 2019. Have a wonderful Holiday Season everyone!! Dina Long, Director ALR Chapter 500
