Woman's Club Meets

A delightful Christmas pro-gram was given by the PublicWelfare Department of the VassWoman's Club at the monthlymeeting held Friday evening inthe home of Mrs. D. C. McGilland Mrs. P. A. Wilson, with Mrs.D. F. Cameron, department chair-man, in charge. Mrs. C. P. Mc-Millan 'answered a number ofChristmas questions, and Christ-mas customs in other lands weregiven by Mesdames CharlesGschwind, W. J. Cameron, G. M.McDermott. W. H. Keith, C. J.Temple, C. L. Tyson and W. T.Cox. Mrs. H. A. Borst, Mrs. S.R. Smith, Mrs. N. N. McLeanand Mrs. W. E. Gladstone eachgave the history of a belovedChristmas carol, which was fol-lowed by the singing of the carol.

During the business sessionMrs. Cameron and Mrs. Smithtold of needy families in thecounty as reported by the Coun-ty Welfare Office, and Mrs. Cam-eron asked that donations beleft with her, to be collected Fri-day by the Carthage committee,for distribution throughout thecounty. The group authorizedMrs. Wilson, American Citizen-ship chairman, to contact oursenator and representative andrecommend that the sale and useof fireworks be outlawed inNorth Carolina.

A Christmas contest was wonby Mrs. H. C. Callahan, Mrs.Temple and Mrs. Gladstone, andrefreshments suggestive of theholiday season were served bythe hostess group, composed ofMrs. Wilson, Mrs. McGill, Mrs.McLean, Mrs. McMillan and Mrs.Fields.

ess to the Presbyterian Auxiliaryon Tuesday evening, at whichtime Miss Neolia McCrummenpresented an impressive Christmisprogram, assisted by Mrs. Wood-row Boroughs. Mrs. N. N. Mc-Lean led the Bible study, withMrs. G. M. McDermott giving areading. Plans for spreadingcheer at Christmas were made.

The refreshments consisted of"candle" sandwiches, pecanpie and Russian tea, and on each

plate was a sprig of holly, nest-led within which was a redcandle burning brightly.

Mrs. Irby and Susan are spend-ing some time with the former'sparents, Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Cam-eron, while waiting to get anapartment in Atlanta, where Cap-tain Irby is an instructor atGeorgia Tech.

Dr. and Mrs. R. G. Rosser arcexpecting their daughter, Janet,home from Oberlin, Ohio, for theChristmas holiday, also theiryounger son, John, for a visit ofseveral days. John, a registeredpharmacist who has been witha drug store in High Point sincehe came home from service in theNavy, plans to take charge of thenew pharmacy at PresbyterianHospital in Charlotte the first ofthe year.

Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Borst wentto Cameron a night last week tomake a birthday call on his mo-ther, Mrs. Lizzie Borst,who wasobserving her 84th birthday.

Mr. and Mrs. Alton Callahanand little daughter, Patsy, re-turned on Wednesday of lastweek from a vacation in Florida.

I Coyt Hinsley, who suffered a[ stroke several months ago, isnow undergoing treatment atDuke Hospital, Durham. On Sun-day Mrs. Hinsley, Mr. and Mrs.Randall Cameron, Mr. and Mrs.Oscar Hardy and Robert Hardyvisited him. Mr. Hinsley's paral-yzed arm and leg are in casts inan effort to straighten them, andit is hoped that he will regainthe use of them.

Mrs. Belle Boggs underwent anoperation for the removal of acataract from one of her eyes atDuke Hospital last week and isgetting along nicely.
