Dear Parishioners,
As you may have heard, a major campaign is currently underway at St. Catharine-St. Margaret Parish and throughout the Diocese of Trenton. Faith to Move Mountains is a $75 million Diocesan-wide endowment campaign that will secure the endowments needed to meet our growing needs and enable our Church to flourish for generations to come. Over the next few weeks, I will be sharing information on each of the endowments that will be created through this historic endeavor:
Catholic Schools ($15 Million): Funds from the campaign will endow scholarships; directly assist our “Mission Schools” serving underprivileged children with limited access to a quality Catholic education; and provide support to the Catholic Alumni Partnership (CAP) program which has already raised more than $180,000 for tuition assistance, technology upgrades, and local campus needs since its launch in 2013.
Social Services ($5 million): Your support will fund grants to our parishes and other Catholic social service partners who offer antipoverty initiatives, education and advocacy, counseling and other ministerial assistance to parishioners in need.
In the coming weeks, we will share further details about the additional endowments and explain how these funds will directly impact our parish. In the meantime, anyone is welcome me before or after Mass with any questions you may have. Thank you to our volunteers and to all who have given to make this campaign a remarkable success to date for St. Catharine-St. Margaret Parish!
God bless, Father Cullen

Bishop’s Anniversary Blessing
October 25, 2015 Ocean/Monmouth
All couples celebrating their 1st, 25th or 50+ wedding anniversary during the 2015 calendar year are invited to gather with family and friends to share the Eucharist, renew your sacred wedding vows, and receive Bishop O’Connell’s Episcopal Blessing. Anniversary couples from Ocean and Monmouth Counties may register through the parish to attend the Sunday, October 25, 2015 Mass and Blessing at 3:00 pm at St. Robert Bellarmine Parish in Freehold (registration deadline is October 5, 2015).
Here we are in the dog days of Summer! It’s not exactly
sizzling outside, but there is a decidedly languid feeling about
these days. Even little Miranda (the dog) is dragging herself
around wishing that she was a Labrador without a perpetual
fur coat.
Here in the parish not a great lot is happening ostensibly,
although behind the scenes things are gearing up for the
beginning of the school year in September. At St. Catharine
School, I see teachers in the classrooms already, getting
ready for their new charges for this coming year; in-service
days are being scheduled, and teacher and student schedules
are being prepared. The light in Dr Castellano’s office is
burning now from early morning to late in the evening.
This year we are excited about our first year of Pre
Kindergarten. The Pre K classroom will be in the old art
room right on the main floor across from the office. It is a
spacious, bright and colorful room befitting our youngest
students. It is newly furnished and beautifully appointed to
welcome class of 2025!
If any parents (or grandparents) have four year olds who
might benefit from our program, be sure to visit the school
and check out our brand new Pre K classroom.
Fr. Harry Cullen
PRAYER FOR THE
ASSUMPTION OF MARY
Father in heaven, all creation rightly gives you praise,
for all life and all holiness come from you. In the plan of your wisdom she who bore the Christ in
her womb was raised body and soul in glory to be with him in heaven.
May we follow her example in reflecting your holiness, and join in her hymn of endless love and praise.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Daughters of St. Catharine and St.
Margaret
“The daughters of St. Catharine-St. Margaret are women
empowering women to trust in Jesus as Mary did – to share triumphs
and tragedies, to learn with and from each other, to make our journey
on this earth peaceful.”
The next meeting is Thursday, September 24, 2015 @ 7:00PM in
St. Margaret Hall. Guest speaker will be Melissa Dayton
Melissa will speak about her years in women's scripture studies and family ministry, how it led to You Can NOT Be Replaced. Covering mental health and substance issues in our community, she'll discuss the importance of working with young adults, schools and the need for all adults in the community to have a positive impact on youth. The message of the organization is meant to inspire and encourage students and families to recognize their value and build strong relationships with their families and friends. Melissa will also talk about the challenges and joys of being a living witness to the faith in secular environments.
You Can NOT Be Replaced was founded after a large suicide cluster that took 7 students from the local high school. The grassroots movement began with purchasing 500 passable wristbands that say 'I Can NOT Be Replaced' for local students that has grown to over 40,000 wristbands being passed across the USA, Canada, UK and Australia. YCNBR serves the community youth and families with events, awareness, positive campaigns and volunteer opportunities. The group works with local schools providing campaigns and school presentations. The project has expanded beyond the borders of the 7 towns that feed the local high school and the Dayton’s travel to speak in other communities and schools.
Melissa is the co founder of the organization and has over 18 years’ experience in marriage, family, and youth organizations. She completed the Diocese of Trentons ILEM program in 2013 and speaks at schools and to parent groups across the state.

Sponsorship Letters - Please Note On a number of occasions during the past two months, we have received requests for Sponsorship Letters for baptism or confirmation that have caused some misunderstanding and resentment. The sponsorship letter requires the pastor to attest that the person requesting the sponsorship is a practicing Catholic; that they are registered in the parish, attend Mass regularly and receive the Sacraments according to the laws of the Church. In most cases this is a routine request and there is no difficulty about it. It becomes a problem when we do not have a record of participation. Using envelopes is an easy way to verify that one is a practicing Catholic, but of course it is just one way. Envelopes are not a pre-requisite, or a measure of practical Catholicity. Some people have been quick to conclude unfairly when a letter is refused that it is all about money. It is not. For future reference, if you do not use envelopes, and require a letter of sponsorship, be prepared to produce some other evidence that you are a practicing Catholic – otherwise we may not be able to grant your request.
