stories, at least 15 plays. He

suspense.

The Moonstone is

considered as the first

detective story in the

history of England.

Franklin is Rachel’s childhood

friend. He is in love with her and

even quits smoking to please her.

Rachel Verinder is a beautiful and wealthy young woman. She lives with her mother and several servants in a fine house in the north of England. She is given the Moonstone at her birthday party but the following morning it is gone.

writes a prescription for some

medicine for Franklin’s failing to

sleep.

An Englishman stole the Moonstone from the temple after murdering three holy men. Hearing about this his sister would not speak to him. After his death he left the Moonstone to his niece in an act of revenge.

Sergeant Cuff is a famous detective

hired by Rachel’s mother to investigate

the theft.

Rasanna is a servant who has been a thief. She seems to be fondof Franklin. In the detective’s eyes,She is also a suspect.
