The LSC Fly-By
October 2016
Be The Change. . . Make A Difference
SEPTEMBER SOCIAL
The October Social was
like totally awesome!! The theme
was I love the 80s and many of
our members dressed the part.
While listening to some great 80s
tunes, we broke up into small
teams and participated in a
Scavenger Hunt. Good grief, the
ladies gave each other a run for
their money! Well, in this case, a
run for the prize (which was
classic candy).
We also had a tubular
time at our photo booth, posing
with Pac Man and peace signs
and showing how totally radical
we could be! We snapped lots of
pictures and had a zillion laughs
while we were at it.
I am so grateful and honored to be a part of such an amazing organization! In such a short time, I have had the opportunity to meet such wonderful spouses of all walks of life. I started serving the LSC as the Charitable Chair in June of this year. I brought ideas to the club of volunteerism and donation drives, not knowing what the response would be. I was blown away by the generosity and energy of the members of the LSC! As Second VP, my goal is to better the lives of the Luke AFB community and local charities. So let us come together and make an impact!

THE LSC FLY-BY October 2016
On September 17th, the Luke
Spouses’ Club hosted a volunteer
opportunity at New Life Center in
Goodyear. This women’s shelter
serves approximately 1,300 residents
a year in a 104-bed facility. They also
run a unique 120-day program, which
provides the women independence
from their abusers through therapy, job
development skills and many other life
sustaining assistance.
In the week prior to the event,
LSC Members along with other Luke AFB
families, collected food donations to
create a dinner for the residents on
campus. On the evening of the dinner, our
volunteers met at the facility, prepared the
meal and served approximately 55 women
and children. We also had a group of
volunteers entertain their children with
crafts and coloring books while the
mothers enjoyed a quiet meal. It was a
truly rewarding experience for everyone
involved.
The September Donation Drive
was also for the New Life Center. Some
residents arrive with only the clothes on
their backs and children to care for. LSC
members collected clothing, diapers,
shampoo, bedsheets and many other
personal care items at our September
Social. With donations like such as ours,
New Life Center can provide care and
supplies for these women in need. Thank
you for your donations and dedication this
month!
The November Donation Drive will be with St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance. Did you know one in five Arizonans or 1.4 million individuals live in poverty? Arizona is the second highest in the nation behind Mississippi in poverty. St. Mary’s Food Bank delivers food to approximately 430 sites in Arizona, including domestic violence shelters, schools, churches, food pantries and senior centers. The LSC will
be hosting a food drive to help feed the hungry in Arizona. Look for the wish list on the LSC website, Facebook page and in your e-mails.
Currently, the November Volunteer Day is undecided. We hope to work with Habitat for Humanity once again. Habitat is gearing up their volunteering program now that fall is here. We are eagerly waiting for an opportunity to help build houses in the local community. This
volunteer event will be open to all military families. So bring your spouse and older children and make a family day out of it!
