So many
books …
so little
time.
“First Grave on the Right” by Darynda Jones
What do you get when you cross a private investigator with a spiritual
medium? Charley Davidson, the heroine who makes you laugh out loud!
This debut novel is quirky but fun. Mystery, suspense and steamy supernatural
romance will have you turning pages faster than you can snap your fingers.
Publisher’s Weekly mentions that it will appeal to fans of Mary Janice Davidson and Janet
Evanovich. I would also invite fans of Meg Cabot, Sherrilyn Kenyon and Charlaine Harris to
read this book and the newly published sequel “Second Grave on the Left.” –Anon VIII

“Prohibition” Film Screening
Wednesday, September 21
6:30 p.m.
TLCAN The Demmer Library invites you to attend a free film screening and discussion of the documentary, Prohibition. The one-
hour film is a three-part, five-and-a-half-hour documentary film series directed by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick that tells the
story of the rise, rule, and fall of the Eighteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution and the entire era it encompassed. The
culmination of nearly a century of activism, Prohibition was intended to improve, even to ennoble, the lives of all Americans,
to protect individuals, families, and society at large from the devastating effects of alcohol abuse. The story of Prohibition's
rise and fall is a compelling saga that goes far beyond the oft-told tales of gangsters, rum runners, flappers, and
speakeasies, to reveal a complicated and divided nation in the throes of momentous transformation. The film raises vital
questions that are as relevant today as they were 100 years ago - about means and ends, individual rights and
responsibilities, the proper role of government.
The screening of Prohibition will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. at the Three Lakes Center for
the Arts in the Northwoods, 1760 Superior St. Free admission with concessions available for purchase. For more
information about this program please visit our website www.demmerlibrary.org or call us at 546-3391. This film is brought
to you by Wisconsin Public Television in partnership with the American Library Association. Check your WPT listings for the
date and time the entire mini-series will air on your local public television station.

the website. An email will notify the patron when the item has arrived at the Demmer Library.
Patrons will be able to keep track of their films through their online account on
familysearch.org/films.
