The Big Three

WordPress, and Facebook and TwitterOh, my…

Facebook Pages

Like a friend's profile, Facebook Pages enable public figures, businesses, organizations and other entities to create an authentic and public presence on Facebook. Unlike your profile, Facebook Pages are visible to everyone on the internet by default. You, and every person on Facebook, can connect with these Pages by becoming a fan and then receive their updates in your News Feed and interact with them.

Facebook Groups

While Pages were designed to be the official profiles for entities, such as celebrities, brands or businesses, Facebook Groups are the place for small group communication and for people to share their common interests and express their opinion. Groups allow people to come together around a common cause, issue or activity to organize, express objectives, discuss issues, post photos and share related content.

Events

Use the Tools at Your Fingertips

• You have created a WordPress website, use the JetPack plugin to post to your Facebook page. Doesn’t duplicate effort. Drives people to the more effective

• You need to be effective. It is better to have a no presence than one that looks abandoned.

• Facebook is great Calendars and Events

3. CHOOSE CAREFULLY

How do I you reach your people?

Social Media Etiquette

• Technology Amplifies everything you do.“The rules”Make deliberate choices on your personal account.– Choose friends – How you interact with them will

be broadcast.– Choose what you say – you will be heard.– Choose your pictures – What affect will the picture

of you and your spouse in swimsuits with someone having beers on the beach have on the teen who is asking questions?

Choose Carefully

• Choose what you re-share - Will clicking next or prev on the picture reveal something that will tempt someone else?

• Be aware you will make mistakes.• Friending – Use Thumper’s rule…

Church Pictures

• Intellectual Property – Who owns it?– Church Staff and Volunteers

• Signed Waver - giving the church irrevocable, unlimited use of the images or video in perpetuity

– Non-Volunteers• Not subject to your rules.• You may have to apply Matthew 18:15

Church Pictures

• Safety – All parents must sign a release to participate– Regardless of waivers respect the situation– Tagging – Don’t do it. Allow it to proceed

naturally. Be aware you will need to remove tags at times. You don’t know the situations

– Church photos are considered a commercial use.– Some churches will choose to NEVER post photos

of their children. This can be wise.

• We’ve spent time talking about what I might be saying…

• But… what should I have said?

• You tell me…

Let’s talk about that…
