The Extended Essay (Facharbeit) is written in Q1 in one of the IB subjects in which written exams are taken. It offers the opportunity to investigate a topic of individual interest.

Candidates participate in the creativity, activity, Service (CAS) programme, which encourages them be involved in artistic pursuits, sports, and community service work.

CASactivitiescontinueforatleast18months.ThestudentsdevoteapproximatelyonehourperweektotheirCASprogramme,maintainingareasonablebalancebetweencreativity,activityandservice.Studentsneedtodocumentandreflecttheiractivities.

Creativity:isexploringandextendingideas,leadingtoanoriginalorinterpretiveproductorperformance.Arts,andotherexperiencesthatinvolvecreativethinking.Creativeactivitiesshouldhaveadefinitegoaloroutcome.(MEP,MICC,Theatregroup,FEGhomepage,Choir/orchestra,YouthTheatreoftheCityofBonnetc.)Activity:physicalexertioncontributingtoahealthylifestyle,actionrelatesspecificallytophysicalactivity.(Theschool’sRowingClub,Coachinginvarioussportteams,Swimmingpluslife-saving,etc.)

Service:anunpaid,voluntaryandcollaborativecommunityengagementinresponsetoanauthenticneedthathasalearningbenefitforthestudent.(Accompanyingclassesonfieldtrips(Aremberg),Conflict-solvinggroup,FirstAid,TutoringinclassesSeniorcitizen’sProject–Studentsteachtheelders–EULE,Participatingintheschool’sself-governingstudentcouncil(SV),Charity:Seniorcitizens;workingwiththehandicapped,fairtradeprojectetc.)
