§ For veterans especially voices of people you were in combat with (including enemy combatants or people killed while deployed).

§ Protector Voice or spiritual guide that comes at a critical point.

§ A Voice that holds past distress in certain situations.

§ A Voice that serves as a reminder of an anniversary of an event.

§ Cultural and/or Spiritual symbolism.

§ Voices starting in the year after a major trauma.

§ Making an appointment.

§ Half-way compliance with voice’s demands.

§ Practicing saying No.

§ Using the tools in one’s framework, for example psychic blocking.

TRANSLATOR

Facilitator: “Joe, can you ask Voice how long he has been in your life?”

(give space for Voice to respond)

Joe: translating what Voice says in own words He says he has been in my life for a long time.

REPORTER

Facilitator: “Voice, how long have you been in Joe’s life?”

(give space for Voice to respond)

Joe: reporting what Voice says verbatim “Joe was so small and I was always there”.

§ How are you?

§ What is important to you? What is your job?

§ What do you want for ........... ?

§ What would .......'s life be like if you were not there?

§ How does ..... relate to you?

§ How long have you been in .....'s life?

§ What is your relationship with ……?

§ Would you like anything to change in your relationship with ........... ?

§ Do you have any advice for .... ?

§ What do you wish would change in ……’s life?

§ Expression of Gratitude to Voice for what was shared.

§ Transition out of the Dialogue.

§ Give the Hearer time and space to reflect on the experience. There may be some new information or emotion to process.

“Thank you, Voice, for speaking with me. I am going to check in with Caroline now. Caroline, how are you doing?

§ Neurofeedback and EMDR.

§ Dialogue and Group Process that involves talking about BOTH traumatic events and accessing emotions.

§ Connecting with animals.

§ Drumming, Singing in a choir, making music.

§ Yoga, meditation and other forms of spiritual practice.

§ Building community and relationships.

§ Studies now indicate primarily these two factors mitigate who will develop distressing voices in response to a trauma later in life.
