The First Angel’s MessagePart 2. The Pillars of Our Faith

1

And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the

earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,

Revelation 14:6 2

Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his

judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and

the fountains of waters.

Revelation 14:7 3

And there came a messenger (Hebrew: malak) unto Job, and

said, The oxen were plowing, and the asses feeding beside them:

Job 1:14 4

And the elders of Jabesh said unto him, Give us seven days’ respite, that we may

send messengers (malak) unto all the coasts of Israel: and then, if there be no

man to save us, we will come out to thee.

1 Samuel 11:3 6

And when the messengers (aggelon from aggelos) of John were departed, he began

to speak unto the people concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness for

to see? A reed shaken with the wind?

Luke 7:24 7

And sent messengers (angelous from angelos) before his face: and they

went, and entered into a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for him.

Luke 9:52 9

10

We are to fear God Give glory to God Worship God as the Creator.

Wisdom hath builded her house, She hath hewn out

her seven pillars:

Proverbs 9:1 11

Doth not wisdom cry? And understanding put forth her voice?

She standeth in the top of high places, by the way In the places of the paths.

Proverbs 8:1, 2 12

By me kings reign, And princes decree justice. By me princes rule, And nobles, even all the

judges of the earth.

Proverbs 8:15, 16 13

Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: For wisdom and might are his: And he changeth the times and the seasons:

He removeth kings, and setteth up kings: He giveth wisdom unto the wise, And knowledge to

them that know understanding:

Daniel 2:20, 21 14

The Lord possessed me in the beginning of his way, Before his works of old. I was set up from everlasting,

from the beginning, Or ever the earth was. When there were no depths, I was brought forth; When there were no

fountains abounding with water. Before the mountains were settled, Before the hills was I brought forth:

Proverbs 8:22–25 15

The passing of the time in 1844 was a period of great events, opening to our astonished eyes the cleansing

of the sanctuary transpiring in heaven, and having decided relation to God’s people upon the earth,

[also] the first and second angels’ messages and the third, unfurling the banner on which was inscribed, “The commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.”

Counsels to Writers and Editors, p. 3116

One of the landmarks under this message was the temple of God, seen by His truth-loving people in

heaven, and the ark containing the law of God. The light of the Sabbath of the fourth commandment

flashed its strong rays in the pathway of the transgressors of God’s law. The nonimmortality of

the wicked is an old landmark.

Counsels to Writers and Editors, p. 3117

The Doctrine of the Trinity is the central doctrine of

the Catholic faith. Upon it are based all the other

teachings of the Church.

Handbook for Today’s Catholic, p. 1618

And God spake all these words, saying, I am the Lord thy God, which have brought

thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no

other gods before me.

Exodus 20:1–3 19

Thousands have a false conception of God and His attributes. They are as verily serving a false god as

were the servants of Baal.

Testimonies for the Church, vol. 5, p. 17420

A knowledge of God is the foundation of all true education and of all true service. It

is the only real safeguard against temptation. It is this alone that can make us

like God in character.

The Ministry of Healing, p. 40921

This is the knowledge needed by all who are working for the uplifting of their fellow men. Transformation

of character, purity of life, efficiency in service, adherence to correct principles, all depend upon a

right knowledge of God. This knowledge is the essential preparation both for this life and for the life to come.

The Ministry of Healing, p. 40922

Those who seek to remove the old landmarks are not holding fast; they

are not remembering how they have received and heard.

Ye Shall Receive Power, p. 235 — Ms 62, 190523

Those who try to bring in theories that would remove the pillars of our faith

concerning the sanctuary or concerning the personality of God or of Christ are working as

blind men.

Ye Shall Receive Power, p. 235 — Ms 62, 190524

They are seeking to bring in uncertainties and to set the people of God adrift without an anchor.

The Living Temple Dr. John Harvey Kellogg

Albion F. Ballenger

29

As far as I can fathom, the difficulty which is found in The Living Temple, the whole thing may be

simmered down to this question: Is the Holy Ghost a person? You say No. I had supposed the Bible said

this for the reason that the personal pronoun “he” is used in speaking of the Holy Ghost.

Letter of Dr. Kellogg to G. I. Butler, October 28, 190330

Sister White uses the pronoun “he” and has said in so many words that the Holy Ghost is

the third person of the Godhead. How the Holy Ghost can be the third person and not

be a person at all is difficult for me to see.

Letter of Dr. Kellogg to G. I. Butler, October 28, 190331

He [Dr. Kellogg] then stated that his former views regarding the Trinity had stood in his way of making a clear and absolutely correct statement; but that within a short time he had come to believe in the Trinity, and could now see pretty clearly where all the difficulty was, and

believed that he could clear the matter up satisfactorily.

Letter of A. G. Daniells to Willie White, October 29, 190332

He told me that he now believed in God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy

Ghost; and his view was that it was God the Holy Ghost, and not God the Father, that

filled all space, and every living thing.

Letter of A. G. Daniells to Willie White, October 29, 190333

He said that if he had believed this before writing the book, he could have expressed his views without giving the wrong impression the book now gives.

Letter of A. G. Daniells to Willie White, October 29, 190334

He said that some days before coming to the council, he had been thinking the matter over, and began to see that he had made a slight mistake in expressing his views.  … He felt sure that he believed just what the Testimonies

teach, and what Dr. Waggoner and Elder Jones have taught for years; but he had come to believe that none of

them had expressed the matter in correct form.

Letter of A. G. Daniells to Willie White, October 29, 190335

Letter of A. G. Daniells to J. H. Kellogg, October 28, 1903

Now you can readily see that all this can not be corrected by simply

a change of terms.

36

Letter of A. G. Daniells to Willie White, October 29, 1903

. . . fair warning that this battle would be fought out to the bitter end, and that

the old traditional theories would be rolled under.

37

Letter of A. G. Daniells to Willie White, October 29, 1903

I felt fully satisfied that he had not changed

his views in any essential particular.

38

The humanity of the Son of God is everything to us. It is the golden chain that binds our souls to

Christ, and through Christ to God.

The Youth’s Instructor, October 13, 189839

For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for

necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!

1 Corinthians 9:16 40

The proclamation of the first, second, and third angels’ messages has been located by the word of Inspiration. Not a peg or pin is to be removed.

Counsels to Writers and Editors, p. 2641

Let us take heed, then, how we build. Let no one build unwisely. The word of God is our only foundation. Every semblance of error will come upon us.

Medical Ministry, p. 8742

Some of these errors will be very specious and attractive, but if received, they would remove the

pillars of the foundation that Christ has established and set up a structure of man’s

building.

Medical Ministry, p. 8743

There are those who seeing, see not, and hearing, hear not, and under

Satan’s guidance they prepare false foundations for human minds.

Medical Ministry, p. 8744

If the foundations be destroyed, What can the

righteous do?
