our expertise: energy efficiency
Dürr, a mechanical and systems engineering group, is a global leader in numerous industrial segments and markets. Within the Dürr Group, five divisions operate within the various global markets.
The Clean Technology Systems division specializes in processes to improve energy efficiency and exhaust air purification.
The potential from the use of untapped energy sources is immense. Energy efficiency means making meaningful use of existing waste heat and apply-ing it more effectively. Dürr offers a variety of innovative energy efficiency technologies that seamlessly comple-ment each other. Our products use excess process heat, waste heat, as well as conventional and alternative fuels to transform energy or to convert it into electricity.

organic rankine cycle (orc) is a key technology for electricity generation from decentralized heat sources. Due to its efficiency and flexibility, unused thermal energy can be profitably utilized using orc technology with a temperature range of between 90 and 600 °c.
Areas of application
Dürr Cyplan ORC systems can be combined with many different waste heat or energy sources. The most attractive applications are those available continuously and receiving special payment for the electricity generated. These applications include stationary combustion engines, biomass incinerators or gas turbines. Increasing electricity prices and the availability of waste heat encourage fast pay back periods of ORC-investments.

» High electrical efficiency with minimum power consumption
» Easy system integration thanks to direct evaporation technology

the orc system
The ORC process is a thermal cycle which uses thermal energy to generate electricity. Hot exhaust gases flow from the heat source (e.g. combustion engine) into the ORC module where the working medium is evaporated by heat energy. Steam flows under pressure into a turbo genera-tor where a portion of the heat energy is converted into electricity. Finally, the steam is condensed in a condenser where cooling re-liquefies the steam. The liquid working medium is pumped back into the evaporator.
ORC systems are available as standardized compact modules in electrical power performance sizes of 40 – 1.000 kW kW. Both high and low-temperature heat sources can be used for power generation.
In high-temperature units, the condensation heat can be supplied at a temperature which enables further use and thus combined heat and power operation.
6
The Compact Power System (CPS) is a highly efficient co-generation unit based on gas turbine technology intended for decentralized provision of electricity, heating and cooling.
By means of co-generation, the fuel is used to its maximum and energy losses are redu-ced to a minimum.
Possible applications
There are many possible applications for the CPS, for example steam generation, heating, air conditioning, drying, CO2 fertilization, generation of electricity from lean gases, or for the purification of solvent-laden air. State-of-the-art burner technology allows for highly efficient utilization of various gas-eous (such as natural, bio, or lean gas) or liquid fuels (diesel, fuel oil or methanol) with low emissions of pollutants. As a special feature, the system can be fed externally with solid fuels.

the technology
The aspired air is compacted in the compressor of the microgas turbine. In most cases, it is then pre-heated by a recuperator using thermal energy from the exhaust gas. The compressed air, together with the fuel, is burned in a combustion chamber. The combustion exhaust gases drive the turbine which sits on a shaft along with the com-pressor and the generator, which is used for electricity generation. The exhaust gas of the microgas turbine is used for the waste heat utilization processes.
Depending on the type of system, the CPS can provide 100 kW of electric power and a thermal power maximum of 520 kW.

technology
Heat pumps and chillers are the state-of-the-art standard in industry and building services. The time-pro-ven thermeco2 machine can provide heated water at a maximum tempera-ture of 110 °C. This opens numerous new applications for energy-efficient, sustainable production, particularly in the industrial sector.
the climate-friendly refrigerant r744 – co2
CO2 is not only beneficial in terms of energy-efficient and ecological compatibility, but also for its advantages in practice being highly user-friendly. Since it does not fall under statutory restrictions, no recording or documentation require-ments apply. The technical management is easy. EU law opted for the quick phase-out of the use of climate-damaging fluorinated greenhouse gases, or so-called F-gases, by 2030. The new F-gas regulation will come into effect in 2015. The fluorinated refrigerants R404A, R410A, R407C and R134a frequently used in large-scale heat pumps, cold water and cold brine generators or high-power compressed air refrigeration dryers will be subject to this directive. Owing to the ambitious phase-out scenario, all recent existing plants and all new installations will likewise be affected by the F-gas regulation during their service life. Companies using ther-meco2 machines do not need to worry about the F-gas regulation and do not have to prepare for incalculable subsequent investments made necessary by the tightening of the refrigerant laws. These are powerful arguments for assets with a long service life, such as thermeco2 large-scale heat pumps, cold water and cold brine genera-tors or compressed air refrigeration dryers.

thermeco2 high-temperature heat pumps and chillers
The thermeco2 series HHR / HHS include a heating pow-er range between 45 and 1,100 kW. For a greater heating capacity, several machines can be easily used in parallel. In the chiller version, temperatures down to -30 °C can be reached. Also with chillers the process heat supply can be provided by default at flow temperatures of up to 110 °C.
thermeco2 compressed air refrigeration dryer
The thermeco2 series ADR offers particularly sustainable refrigeration dryers for compressed air systems. The series is comprised of dryers for air volumes between 4,100 and 63,000 m³/h. As an option, high-temperature heat recovery of up to 90 °C is possible. Thanks to the heat recovery, the refrigeration dryers pay off quickly.
