Octopus
Species
All together there are 17 different known
species of Dumbo Octopus in all oceans of the
world. The species I am researching is part of
the Grimpoteuthis Abyssicola.
Where do theycome from?
Dumbo OctopusSpecies of this family are
believed to dwell on the
deep ocean floor in all
oceans of the world up to
3,0004,000 meters.
Species of the Dumbo
Octopus have been found
in the waters only
surrounding
continents.Some of these
are:New Zealand,
Australia, Monterey Bay,
Oregon, Philippines,and
New Guinea
Yellow squares represent the speciesfrom around the world
Behavior
The behavior of the Grimpoteuthis Abyssicola is/has
not not been known for a long time and therefore
scientist have not observed their behavior. Even
though scientist have not discovered their behavior
they seem to be a nonthreat to humans or large/small
aquatic animals
Habitat
The Dumbo Octopus is a deep sea animal that lives
at the ocean floor at depths at a range of 9,800 ft to
13,000 ft
The Dumbo Octopus inhabits all of the world’s
oceans
Respiration
Like all octopuses, Dumbo
Octopuses breathe by using their
gills
Life Cycle
Depending on what type of species,
the average life span ranges
between about 6 months to 4 years.
Diet
Crustaceans
Bivalve
Worms
Copepods
Human RelationsA number of videos of Dumbo Octopuses caught
by people swimming through the ocean are
referred to as dancing. As a result, humans have
been affected by the beauty of this marine animal
because of it's cuteness
Importance to theEcosystem
The Dumbo Octopus doesn't really play much of an
important role in the ecosystem however octopuses,
in general, play a role in controlling the population of
sea floor feeders
ConservationThe population of the Dumbo Octopus is in no
type of threat and their population is neither
decreasing/increasing
Interesting FactsDumbo Octopuses do not produce ink
Females can lay their eggs anytime they please
