SIXTH FORM COLLEGE

YEAR 9 OPTIONS2015

The Curriculum Policy….

Ossett Academy will provide a curriculum structure that provides a deep learning experience for all of our students, providing them with the skills and competences for life long learning.

To promote excellence by inspiring students to realise their full potential, achieve high standards and have the courage to accept new challenges.

The Future....

The subjects and qualifications studied during Years 10 and 11 will affect how students spend their time during the next two years at school. It could also help with a career or college course later on.

Students can make choices about some of the subjects they study, picking those that suit individual interests and talents.

Changes for September 2015

New GCSEs in English language, literature and maths that will be taught from September 2015, will contain new content and will be assessed and graded differently.

These subjects will be assessed by exam only, and students will be awarded one of nine grades, represented by the numbers 1-9, with 9 representing the highest level of attainment.

The new maths GCSE will be more ‘challenging’ with more emphasis on problem solving. It will also be wholly assessed by exam.

The new GCSEs will be graded 1 to 9, with 9 being the top grade

Broadly the same proportion of students will achieve a grade 4 and above as currently achieve a grade C and above

Broadly the same proportion of students will achieve a grade 7 and above as currently achieve an A and above
