tennis team had difficulty re-bounding from its preceeding los-ses as they dropped two matchesthis past week. In the first matchversus Plainview.the racquetman..wejie_.defemtM_3_ -_^Deer Park were Joey Rosen,3rd singles, and Steve Sterlingand Lew Towsky in first doublesplay.

In their only league contest ofthe week, the Falcons were upsetby Port Jefferson 3 - 2 . Thismatch proved to be a costly onefor the squad as Carl Merz, theleading player, pulled a musclein his leg. Joey Rosen gained a3rd singles win as Steve Sterlingand Lew Towsky won their sixthconsecutive match. The team 'soverall record is 6 - 4.

team split a pair last week whenthey upset Half Hollow Hills andlost to Brentwood. The stickmenhad their biggest victory of theseason when they defeated HalfHollow Hills 8 - 5 , for the firsttime in five years. Dale Whitleyscored 4 goals and 2 assistswhile Tom Mc Aleavy had 4 points.Last Wednesday the squaddropped a decision to Brentwood,a strong contender fot the CountyChampionship, by a score of 13-3.

BOWLINGAt Captree Lanes, West Islip,

14 year old , Bob Valentine re-ceived a trophy for 2nd place inSuffolk County. The Junior-Senior Boys league had as itswinners, Pete Pastor, 16, with257; and Phi l Cooke, 15, 212.

Ann Kandler got 201 as a mem-ber of the Wednesday NightLadies League. Top honors wentto, Al Clemin with 256; MarionBaums, 201; Dennis Conners,204. Accepting the congratula-tions of their fe llow bowlerswere, Connie Decker with 211,Bill Pladl , 209 and Pete Zellons,201, all at Captree.

games to West Babylon, the DeerPark baseball team slipped intoa tie for first with the Eagles.The squad's record now standsat 7 - 4. Jim Valente, who hadpreviously been victorious in hisfirst five starting assignments,suffered his initial setback. WestBabylon tagged the righthanderfor three runs in the first framein the opener of the series andheld on to win 3 - 2 .

West Babylon dominated thesecond contest. The Eaglesripped the combined pitching offreshman, Bob McCurdy andjunior , Larry Conde en route toan 1 1 -4 romp over the Falcons.The big outburst came in thefourth when West Babyloncrossed the plate nine times.

Mrs. Paul Drummond ofHughes La., leader of SeniorGirl Scout Troop 130, broughtseveral of her Scouts to a meet-ing at Belmont School on Mondaynight to instruct Junior GirlScouts of troops 212 , 105 and 175on camping skills. The Juniorsplan a camping tr ip to Camp Sa-baco, Y aphank on Memorial Dayweekend. The Seniors also con-ducted a song-fest , present were,Janet and Claire Jones , KristieCreed, Sue Olson , Rita Eckhardtand Patty Welsh who accompaniedthe Scouts on the guitar. The Babylon Home ExtensionService had a large turnout attheir annual achievement day ex-hibit at Phelps Lane Park lastWednesday afternoon. The chair-man , Mrs. Helen Ulricksen ofHiggins-St . conducted a tour ofthe crafts and projects of themembers, which number 200.Among the outstanding displayswas a large, framed hooked pic-ture of a Cur rier and Ives print,'Cutting the Ice*. The colorfulwork was the creation of Mrs.Dorothy Strachen, in her 80's,who has received acclaim frommany sources on her beautifulrug. On display were skillslearned by the Babylon Extensionladies. Afte r a brief meeting, themembers modeled outfits whichthey had made, hats, furs , knitsand gloves.
