The Adam Black Guitar Company has created a range of guitars to meet the high standards set by today’s guitarists. Our concentration has been put solely into production; making sure that only the essential features for the enjoyment of playing the instrument are in place. Many other brands concentrate on the cosmetics, rather than focus on more important features such as projection of sound and tone.

The basis of Adam Black guitars is quality where it is essential. Where the player’s personal expressiveness to be transferred by the sound of the instrument. Two examples are that every instrument features a dove tail neck joint for improved tone and scalloped bracing for greater volume:

Dove Tail Neck Joint. The tone, or character of sound from a guitar comes mainly from the neck. The body of an acoustic guitarbasically amplifi es that tone. A dove tail neck joint is traditionally used on higher end instruments for a smooth passage of resonance between neck and body. This joint is a substantial add on cost that the player cannot see, however, they can hear it. All Adam Black acoustic guitars come with this expensive dove tail neck joint as standard.

Scalloped Bracing. Will giving an acoustic instrument a solid top make it sound good? Quite simply, no! The top of an acoustic guitar in most cases has the bridge attached to it. (Where the strings anchor into the body) To prevent the top being pulled up by the tension of the strings the guitar must be internally strengthend. This is achieved by bracing the top using a frame work of wood. Using a taller brace and scalloping it (thinning out the individual timbers) gives strength, whilst allowing the top to vibrate more freely. Once again this is a feature that cannot be seen by the player. However it can be heard.

However that is not to say that Adam Black Guitars are not good looking. Every guitar in the range features the same mini abalone style dots in the fi ngerboard with an abalone ring placed around the sound hole. At the headstock end each guitar has no more than the ‘Black’ logo keeping the same simple but stylish theme.

In regard to the hardware of the instruments (machine heads, etc..), once again high quality is standard. Die cast machine heads, where the gearing is all encased, is used. This gives the player tuning stability. All other hardware is chosen without compromising on quality. Where electrics are used Adam Black guitars are fi tted with the Fishman Classic 4 unit. Cheaper options could be used, however reliability and great tone is what today’s guitar players deserve.

Adam Black Guitar Company is determined to offer guitars that sound great and are a joy to play. We at Adam Black are determined to offer to players’ guitars with ‘must have’ features that are typically found on more expensive instruments.

Adam Black Jazz Guitars

A Journey of Rediscovery...Adam Black Guitar Company has completed another stage of their journey to build great guitars at incredible prices. Once again they’ve done themselves proud.

Demands for new models at great prices with high end features as standard, was the objective. Where to start?

By going back to what the original guitar makers were building at the dawn of the guitars that we all know today. Adam Black wanted to go back and experience this wonderful era. The brief was to recreate these guitars with all the features to make them great at prices that guitar players wanted.

In the period between the 1930’s through to the 1950’s great steps were taken to improve guitars as they were now becoming an instrument in their own right as opposed to just a background instrument. With the era of Jazz and later Blues bourgeoning in its infancy the guitar became synonymous with these musical styles. Bigger bodies and pick ups were introduced. Adam Black has introduced three new models in recognition to these great builders and players of this exciting time.

The new models all share certain features which balance the looks of the originals with the compromises that today’s guitarist’s demand. The 17” body is a laminated construction; this was developed in the 1950’s for strength, projection and to eliminate feedback with the introduction of electrics. The top is a laminated close grain spruce, the back a laminated lustrous quilted maple. The neck is three piece maple construction fi tted with a rosewood fi ngerboard. This is glued in utilising the dove tail neck joint which is standard on Adam Black guitars, to transfer the tone from the neck through to the body. The mini abalone Adam Black dots are fi tted as standard with all models. The hardware is gold plated with high quality Grover machine heads, a gold plated tailpiece to mirror the era and a fl oating bridge. All of the guitars have bound bodies, necks, f holes and headstocks. They have also added a traditional looking scratch plate to fi nish of the look.

The JA-10 is a pure acoustic guitar. The instrument has a wooden fl oating bridge to emphasise the acoustic sound. This guitar is reminiscent of the early Jazz

and Blues guitars.

The JA-15 celebrates the introduction of the fl oating pick-up which gives the instrument a great jazz sound. The pick up is located at the end of the

fi ngerboard.

Finally the JA-20 comes complete with two humbucking pick-ups replicating guitars of the late 50’s. This guitar celebrates blues, jazz and of course the

early beginnings of Rock ‘n’ Roll.
