What is an LVOT?

Hydraulic and mechanical lock tools provide a means of overriding linear gate actuator valves on subsea trees and/or manifolds. The tools are sized to fit standard valve interfaces and engage with valves to hold them in an open position for a predetermined period of time.

Increasing Safety and Capabilities Case Study: Linear Valve Override Tool (LVOT)

Test Regime

• Two test samples were tensile tested.

• One sample was creep tested.

• Two test samples underwent high-cycle fatigue loading until failure.

• Strain gauges were applied by BSSM (The British Society of Strain Measurement) certified TQR staff.

Outcome

We were able to characterize the LVOT under different stress cases.

We identified strong convergence between model and test results.

Maximum sample length: 26 m

Maximum tension: 1,000 kN

Angular displacement: up to +/- 30°

Multiple Applications • Umbilicals • Bend stiffeners • Latching mechanisms • Flexible and composite pipes • Power cables • Ropes
