Famous soap operas in Britain
Eastender is a soap opera about life in an area of London. It is very popular for teenagers.
Coronation Street is another soap opera and it started in 1960 and it is on TV four times a week!
• It stands for: British Broadcasting Corporation.
• It was founded in 1922.
• In Britain people must pay for having TV sets at home. It is called TV License.
• But, how much?– Colour TV: 139.50 pounds a year (150 euros)– Black and white: 47 pounds a year (60 euros)
TV Detection units.• They detect the signal from TV sets.
• If you use a TV set without paying the license, you are warned. If you don’t pay, you can be fined with 1.000 pounds. (1200 euros)
• Adverts did not exist in BBC. That’s why the license was paid, but they do now.
