Teens Not Getting Enough Sleep, Leading to Poor Academic Performance
According to a recent study from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)
• Adolescents’ failure to get enough sleep may just be affecting their school work.
According to the AAP
• Schools should start at 8:30 or later, depending on students’ commute time.
• Starting school later in the morning does have a positive effect on students’ test scores and academic performance.
• Nine thousand students at eight high schools in three states saw greatly improved grades after school started an hour later in the morning.
• The study aims to promote healthy sleep habits in teenagers, a group they found is greatly sleep deprived; less than half of American kids get nine hours of sleep a night and 58% of 15-to 17-year-olds sleep less than seven hours a night.
• Besides developing healthy sleep habits, a comfortable mattress is also essential to a good night’s sleep.
• Canada’s Sleep Paradise’s mattress store in Barrie has a wide variety of mattresses, so you’re sure to find something that will let your children sleep comfortably at an affordable price.
