1. GPON Doctor 8000 Overview
1.1. Introduction
GPON Doctor 8000 is an “All in a box” GPON FTTH protocol sniffer and analyzer, able to be connected to any location within your ODN (Optical Distribution Network) and capture downstream and upstream bit-level information. It interprets all control and management information (OAM, PLOAM and OMCI), and provides real time upper layers traffic extraction. Fully oriented for interoperability tests, it is a perfect tool for Telcos.
GPON Doctor 8000 is a complete tactile, autonomous system, eliminating the need of a host computer while providing the capability of remote analysis. It is chipset-less, presenting analysis not biased by any manufacturer view. It is passive with an innovative ranging method for automatic synchronization to the PON.
The Analysis Software interprets the captured data and allows the operator to inspect the control flow. It infers the topology and state of a GPON network (ONTs detected, data channels established, configuration exchanged, bandwidth statistics and OMCI entities-relation diagram).
The GPON Standard Evaluation System applies a set of contextualized, dynamic rules to test the ITU-T G.984.x protocol level of compliance. It generates a final inform listing all protocol violations.
Based on Windows XP Embedded, GPON Doctor can include other office and analyze tools. Very intuitive and usable, with a very low learning curve, it lets you start using it right from the start.

1.2. General Characteristics
GPON Capture and Analysis
Capture System
• Own implemented chipset-independent capture hardware, not biased by manufacturers’ specific implementations.
• Passive, non-invasive connection capability to any physical point of a GPON network.
• PON synchronization system with automatic detection of distance to OLT for upstream reception.
• Capture of full GPON control and management information in both directions: o PLOAM o BWmap o DBRu o OMCI (one channel)
• Hardware FEC analysis and AES decoding.
• Line status indication.
• Full semantic interpretation of all fields and parameters in captured traces.
• Easy downstream and upstream frames association.
• Data filtering system for quick navigation through the capture.
• Maximum duration of the captures between 30 and 60 minutes (depending on equipment configuration and traffic density).

Analysis System
• GPON State Inference System. From the analysis of the control and negotiation messages, the following information is inferred:
o Network topology (detected ONTs, T-CONTs and GEM ports). o Global PON parameters and specific ONT negotiation parameters. o GTC state of detected ONTs. o Bandwidth statistics per T-CONT for each ONT. o State of all known OMCI entities at a specific time within the capture
showing errors and activated alarms. o Entity-Relation graphic diagram of the OMCI entities. o PON Transport architecture: T-CONT+GEM+VID+TC+PPTP association
map.
• GPON Standard Evaluation System: A monitoring rule based evaluation engine analyzes the captured trace providing the following information:
o Anomalies detected during the OLT-ONT negotiation process. o OLT and ONTs standard compliance checking result. o Evaluation of the interoperability level between devices. o CRC and FEC errors in the capture.

Upper-Layer Traffic Extraction, Capture and Analysis
Extraction System
• Real time Ethernet traffic extraction from one bidirectional GEM port and/or one multicast GEM port through an standard 10/100/1000 Ethernet interface.
• Automatic detection of the selected GEM port encryption status and real time AES decryption.
• Compatible with all major Ethernet generators/analyzers.
• In combination with an Ethernet traffic generator, it can be used to identify frame losses.
• Extracted Ethernet traffic can be fed back into GPON Doctor or other Ethernet analyzer for further analysis.
Capture and Analysis System
• It includes an Ethernet analysis tool compatible with most upper-layer protocols.
• Ethernet captures are downloaded directly to a high speed SSD hard disk unit (100 MBytes/s writing speed).
• Suitable to compare inserted, received and transported Ethernet traffic.
• Capacity for 80 GBytes of Ethernet captures (this secondary storage system may be larger).
