Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®
Xi Zeta Omega Chapter (ΞΖΩ)
Sorors, thank you for all of your service and great work during March Madness!
Xi Zeta Omega was busy and our bracket was full! Sorors made it happen, from our Chapter Summit to the Youth Service Awards and Youth Oratorical Contest. At our Chapter Summit, more than 60 sorors enjoyed a day of fun and fellowship. The day started off with a lively and fun game of XZO AKAJeopardy. Soror Alicia Johnson served as host and we had our very own Wheel of Fortune Vana
White in Soror L’Ornya Bowie. We had three teams of contestants, named Pink, Green, and Pearl. They competed against each other to earn the championship title and bragging rights for scoring the most points as they correctly answered questions about the history of Xi Zeta Omega Chapter and The Ivy Foundation. Each team had a Golden, Silver, and soror with fewer than 15 years of service.
After the opening game, sorors broke out into workshops where they enjoyed informative and interactive sessions on The Ivy Foundation, Parliamentary Procedures, and "So You Want to Run for Office." Congrats to Soror Candace’ Jackson! She won the campaign challenge for her “PEARLSonal” presentation. Soror Candace’ shared her vision for the sorority and our community. The afternoon session began with a great team building activity by the Membership and
Sisterly Relations Committees. The closing workshops included a presentation by Soror Cheryl Petty Garnett (IGO) of the Ivy Vine Charities in Prince George’s County. Many thanks to Soror Beverly Fields, Protocol Chair, for her lively discussion and test on the do’s
and don’ts of attire, etiquette, and all things AKA protocol. Our full day ended with an emotional and heart-felt message from Soror
Kendra Brown, who reminded us to move forward when “sisterhood doesn’t work.” It was a very special moment and perfect ending to the day. Let me extend my heartfelt gratitude to every soror who served on the Summit planning committee to make it a success.
I would also like to give a special acknowledgement to Sorors Judy
Brown and Greer Gavins for chairing the 2017 Youth Oratorical & Arts and Youth Service Awards program. We had more than 10 students/groups participate and awarded more than $2,000 in cash prizes.
We continue to do great things in Launching New Dimensions. Lastly, I want to thank our Pearls of Service, a.k.a. the
leadership and executive committees, for rising above and answering the call to service.
In service! Soror Daphne

35th Anniversary: 35 Acts of Kindness
In honor of our chapter's 35 years of service, we are asking all sorors to
document 35 Acts of Kindness for our memoirs by the end of the year. You may
document any way you choose, i.e. using words, poems, pictures, hashtags. It's
completely up to you.
As you are going through the month giving back to others and our community, simply
make a note of the act or take a photo of yourself and other sorors involved. Stop by the Pinky Projects table at chapter meetings through the end-of-the-year and just let us
know. We will take care of the rest. At our end-of-the-year event, we will honor those
sorors with the most documented acts of kindness and the biggest hearts for sharing
themselves with others. What’s most important is that you HAVE FUN!!
#wehelpeachother #35actsofkindness #XZOgives
You may also email your acts of kindness to Tracy Harrison, akatharrison@gmail.com.
