AGRO-CLIMATIC, SEASONAL AND CULTURAL ADAPTATION:
Recommended as a national variety for dry season
MAJOR REASONS FOR RECOMMENDING NEW VARIETY:
Of the 17 NTC valid trials (2007 wet season to 2008-2009 dry season), Asha (ICGV 86564) yield consistently ranked number 1 & 2. However, yield is higher during wet season with average pod yield of 2,815 kgs/ha. (See Attached Table). In comparison with NSIC Pn 11 (national check variety), Asha variety significantly out yielded NSIC Pn 11 by 22% and 10 % during wet and dry season, respectively.
It is consistently high in yield in Regions 01 (MMSU & DMMMSU) and 04 (BPI-LBNCRDC).
It is the first 3-in-1 variety introduced in the Philippines having class-A (50% extra-large seeds) class-B (30% large seeds) and class-C (20% medium-small seeds) sizes in a plant
It is resistant to bacterial wilt and important foliar diseases (early and late cercospora leaf spot and rust) making it an ideal livestock farage due to its high fresh bio-mass and dry matter yield.
Being large-seeded, it has high shelling recovery (73-79%) and ideal for confections and table foods as indicated by its proximate analysis (25.67% crude protein, 20.05% carbohydrates, 47.41% crude fat, 4.39% moisture and 2.48% ash).
