SwiTzerland iS a pioneer in The Global efforT To end Malaria
Despite continuous successes, malaria is far from being defeated and still paralyzes the social and eco nomic development of affected countries. Switzerland is one of the leading countries in the fight against malaria and Swiss investments against this disease have demonstrated significant impact, saving tens of thousands of lives every year. The Swiss Malaria Group combines research excellence and long-standing field experience garnered over decades to end malaria providing substantial expertise at local, national and global levels.
investment in malaria is one of the “best buys” in global health and development
The 2030 Global Malaria Goals aim to reduce malaria mortality and incidence rates by 90 percent com-pared with 2015. Together, we seize one of the best development investment opportunities of our time.
• More than 10 million lives to be saved. 2
• Cost savings for both households and health systems and increased macroeconomic output generated by a healthy and productive workforce unburdened by malaria.
• US$ 4 trillion of additional economic output to be generated between 2016 and 2030. 2
The bern declaration on Malaria – reaffirming Switzerland's leadership role against malaria
On World Malaria Day 2016, presidents of the Swiss parliament, ten parliamentarians and mem-bers of the Swiss Malaria Group signed the Bern Declaration on Malaria joining efforts to devise a united approach to strengthen global health sys-tems and fight malaria effectively, efficiently and in line with the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
