wners Jack and Joelle Ray recentlylearned that their remodeled andrenovated salon in North Raleigh

has been named First Runner-Up inSalon Today’s annual “Salons of theYear” décor competition, placing it sec-ond to Frederic Fekkai’s new salon inNew York City’s trendy meat-packingdistrict.

“Frederick Fekkai is an icon in thisindustry, and New York is the mostfashion-forward city in the nation,”Joelle said. “We are so proud and hon-ored to be considered in the sameleague.”

Located at 240 Newton Road inRal eigh, Samuel Cole Salon officiallyun veiled its new, modern, curvilinearinterior in February of this year. It wasdesigned by Clark Hipolito of The ArtCompany with Michael Perry of Portoin Raleigh, in direct collaboration withthe Rays. The award-winning interiorfeatures sleek espresso-colored cabinetry,a polished Pakistani onyx receptioncounter, a glowing shampoo stationwith sculptural bowls, and bamboo andcork flooring. Jack Ryan of GlasgowMetalworks in Raleigh created thehandcrafted, stainless steel color bar.

The remodeling enlarged the salonfrom 1400 to 3000 square feet, provid-ing space for Hipolito and Perry to usecustom-designed cabinetry to juxtaposemodern aspects of the interior with apale blue ceiling and honey-hued floor-ing.

Based in Lincolnshire, IL, and pub-lished by Vance Publishing, Salon Todayis a business magazine for fine salon andspa owners. Its sister publicationsinclude Modern Salon, Process, andRenew magazines.
