Grading&StudentEvaluationGradingofacademicandpracticalworkatKeeneBeautyAcademyisbasedontestscoresaswellassignedclassroomwork.Allcriteriaisbasedonindustrystandardsandmadeknowntoeachstudent.Progressischartedcarefullybyrecordingacademictestgradesandpracticaltestgrades.A74%averageinacademicsubjectsandpracticalskillsconstitutesapassinggradepoint.Otherimportantareasofevaluationareattendance,attitude,effortandpersonalappearance.Byproviding

evaluation,weofferfeed-backtoeachstudentandadvisethemonhowtoimproveweakerareaswhileencouragingthemtogrowintheirareasofstrength.CompleteSatisfactoryAcademicProgressPolicyisavailableoninthecataloganddistributedatstudents’initialinterviewpriortoenrollment.

• TheAcademywillallownomorethan5‘tardies’inonemonth.Ifa5thtardyisobtainedaonedaysuspensionfromattendingschoolwillbeissued.Suspensionswillbescheduledonstudentclinicdaysnottointerferewiththestudent’sclassschedule.Hoursmissedduetosuspensionwillneedtobemadeupandmayextendastudentscalculatedcompletiondate.

• Studentswhosetrainingisextendedbeyondthecalculatedcompletiondateduetounexcusedabsencesfromschoolwillberequiredtopayanadditionalchargeequaltotheratestatedintheircontractforeachhourtrainingisextended.2019ratesperovertimehoursareCosmetology;12.00perhour;Esthetics;15.84perhour.

• Thestudentisresponsibleforobtainingclassnotesandhomeworkassignmentsformissedtime.

• ExamsmissedduetoabsencemustbemadeupnolaterthanthefirstFridayfollowingthestudentsreturn.Makeupexamsaretobescheduledattheconvenienceoftheinstructor.

• Ifanentiresubjectismissedduetoabsence,thestudentisrequiredtoparticipateinthesubjectsnextavailabletimeframe.

TerminationTermsforterminationinclude,butarenotlimitedtothefollowing:

1. Unsatisfactoryprogress,ingradepointaverageand/orattendanceaverage.2. Seriousdisregardofschoolsrulesandregulations.3. Aviolationofschool’sdrugandalcoholpreventionpolicy.Atermination

noticewillbegiveninwritinginaccordancewithNACCAS,KBA’saccreditingagency.

AnAppealmustbereceivedwithin5businessdaysoftheAcademy’swrittennotification.Uponreceiptofwrittenappeal,adecisionoftheschoolboard,consistingofAdministrator,Director,oneinstructorofastudent’schoiceandoneoutsidememberoftheAcademy’schoice,willberenderedwithin15businessdays.Decisionsoftheboardarefinal.

Graduation&LicensingUponsuccessfulcompletionofacourse,thestudentisawardedadiplomacertifyingtraininginallbranchesoftheirchosenfield.Thegraduateistheneligibletotakethestateboardlicensingexam.Thegraduatemayalsoapplyforaninterimortemporarypermittowork(NH)whilewaitingforthestateexam.

GraduationRequirementsStudentswillgraduateuponcompletionoftherequirednumberofhourslistedbelow,subjecttothefollowingconditions:

A. TherequirednumberofpracticalassignmentsarecompletedB. Thestudentmustachieveacumulativeacademicaverageofseventy-four

percent(74%)atthedateofgraduation.C. Thestudentwillhavefulfilledallfinancialobligationstotheschool,withthe

studentunderstandingthatpriortobecominglicensedtheymustpassthestateboardexam.

Cosmetology:InordertograduatefromKeeneBeautyAcademyincosmetology,studentsmusthavecompleted1500hoursoftraining,achievedaminimumaverageof74%onacademicwork,practicalworkandattendance,andcompletedtherequirednumberofpracticalassignments.

Esthetics:InordertograduatefromKeeneBeautyAcademyinesthetics,studentsmusthavecompleted600hoursoftraining,achievedaminimumaverageof74%onacademicwork,practicalworkandattendance,andcompletedtherequirednumberofprojects.

• Applicantwhoreceivedonlinesecondaryeducation;validityofsourceofcertificationordiplomawillbethoroughlyresearchedandverifiedthoughAdvanc-ed.organdafullsecondaryeducationtranscriptwillneedtobesubmittedbytheapplicant.InorderforastudenttoreceiveFederalStudentAidfundingselfcertificationwillnotbesufficient

• Homeschooledstudentsthoughnotconsideredtohaveahighschooldiplomaorequivalent,theyareeligibletoreceiveFSAfundsiftheirsecondaryschooleducationwasinahomeschoolthatstatelawtreatsasahomeorprivateschool.Somestatesissueasecondaryschoolcompletioncredentialtohomeschoolers.Ifthisisthecaseinthestatewherethestudentwashomeschooled,theymustobtainthiscredentialtobeeligibleforFSAfunds.

• Applicantswhoareofcompulsoryage(NH16y)willbeconsideredwhentheycanprovideverifiableproofofcompletedsecondaryeducation.ItshouldbenotedthatNHStateBoardofBarberingCosmetologyandEstheticsdoesnotissueprofessionallicenseapplicantsuntiltheageof18.

• KeeneBeautyAcademydoesnotadmitstudentsundertheAbilitytoBenefitprogramatthistime.

• KeeneBeautyAcademywillconsiderre-entryofterminatedorstudentswhohavefailedtocompleteonacasebycasebasis.Allstandardapplicationprocedureswillbefollowedtoapplyforre-entry

TRANSFERPOLICYInorderforKeeneBeautyAcademytoconsiderrequeststoaccepttraininghoursfrompost-secondarycosmetologyorestheticstrainingprograms,thefollowingpolicymustbefollowed;

• TranscriptofgradesandclassesattendedfromanycosmetologyschoolattendedmustbeprovidedandwillbereviewedbyDirector.

• StateProfessionalLicensuremustbeprovidedifapplicable.o• Itemsforconsiderationinclude,butarenotlimitedto;

o Circumstancessurroundingterminationofpreviousinstitutionso Attendancerateo GradePointaverageo Timelapsedfromprevioustrainingo Allfinancialobligationstoanypreviousinstitutionaremet.o AllstandardKeeneBeautyAcademyadmissioncriteriawillbe

followed.o KeeneBeautyAcademyreservestherighttorefusethetransferof

• InorderforKeeneBeautyAcademytoconsiderrequeststoaccepttraininghoursfromsecondarytrainingprograms,thefollowingpolicymustbefollowed.SubmissionoftranscriptofCosmetologyorEstheticsgradesandclassesattendedforbothjuniorandsenioryears(ifapplicable)aswellasacompletesecondaryschooltranscript.Eachyearisevaluatedindividuallyforfinalgrade.ApplicantmusthavefinalCosmetologyorEstheticsgradeof74%orbettereachyearinbothwrittenandpracticalworktobeconsideredfortransferofhoursaswellasanoverallGPAof74%orbettereachyearinfullsecondarytranscript.$500.00institutionalscholarshipisissuedtoapplicantsfromsecondaryCosmetologyprogramswhoexhibitGPAof74%orbetterwhetherornottheyrequesttransferofhours.Aforementionedinstitutionalscholarshipwillexpireoneyearafterthegraduationdateoftheapplicant.

• AllTransferapplicantsmustcompleteallstandardKeeneBeautyAcademyentrancerequirements.Transferhoursfromsecondaryprogramswillbeappliedtostudent'scompletedhoursafter900hoursofsuccessfullycompletedtrainingfallingwithintheguidelinesofKeeneBeautyAcademySatisfactoryAcademicProgresspolicy.EnrollmentagreementwillreflectacceptanceoftransferhoursandwillbeamendedifSatisfactoryProgressisnotachievedat900completedhours.Studentmayelecttoremoverequestfortransferofhoursatanypointintheirprogram.

• KeeneBeautyAcademyreservestherighttorefusethetransferofhoursfromanyprevioustraining.

• AllstandardKeeneBeautyAcademyadmissioncriteriawillbefollowed.

SatisfactoryAcademicProgressPolicyThissatisfactoryprogresspolicyisestablishedandmaintainedconsistentlyforallstudentsattendingtheKeeneBeautyAcademy.ThisistruewhetherastudentisusingTitleIVstudentaidornot.Itisappliedtoallstudentswhetherfullorparttime.ThispolicycomplieswithallotherregulationsapplicabletotheAcademy.InordertobeconsideredmakingSatisfactoryAcademicProgress(SAP)whileattendingKeeneBeautyAcademy,astudentmustachieveSAPrequirementswhichwillbeevaluatedatthepointatwhichthestudentachievesthefollowingactualattendedhours;Cosmetology;450,900,1200actualattendedhoursEsthetics;300actualattendedhoursAlltransferstudentswillbeevaluatedatthemidpointoftheircontractedhoursortheestablishedevaluationperiodsabove,whichevercomesfirst.AstudentmeetingtheminimumrequirementsatanevaluationshallbeconsideredmakingsatisfactoryprogressuntilthenextscheduledSAPevaluation.Thestudentmustmeetboththeattendanceandacademicprogressrequirementstobeconsideredmakingsatisfactoryprogress.SatisfactoryAcademicandPracticalperformancerequirements:Thestudentmustmaintaina74%oraboveincumulativegradepointaverage,whichincludespracticaltestscoresandwrittentestscores,inordertomeettheacademicrequirementoftheSatisfactoryAcademicProgressPolicy.GeneralInterpretationofAcademicandPracticalGrades:74-100Satisfactory0-73UnsatisfactorySatisfactoryAttendancerequirement:Thestudentmustmaintaina74%attendancerateinordertomeetrequiredattendancerateoftheSatisfactoryAcademicProgressPolicyevaluationperiods.MaximumTimeFrameThemaximumtimeframethatisallowedforastudenttocompleteeachprogram,whichdoesnotexceed150%ofthecourselength,isstatedbelow.Studentswhodonotcompletetheprogramwithintheguidelinesofthemaximumtimeframewillbewithdrawnfromtheprogramatthemaximumtimelimitandwithdrawalandsettlementpoliciesinitiated.Withdrawnstudentmayre-applyasatransferstudentfromapost-secondaryschool.Alladmissionpolicieswillbefollowedandre-admissionisnotguaranteed.Cosmetology,ScheduledProgramLength30hours/week,1500hoursEsthetics,ScheduledProgramLength,20hours/week,600hours

DETERMINATIONOFPROGRESSSTATUSStudentsmeetingtheminimumrequirementsforacademicsandattendanceattheevaluationpointareconsideredtobemakingsatisfactoryacademicprogressuntilthenextscheduledevaluation.Studentswillreceiveahard-copyoftheirSatisfactoryAcademicProgressDeterminationatthetimeofeachoftheevaluations.StudentsdeemednotmaintainingSatisfactoryAcademicProgressmayhavetheirTitleIVFundinginterrupted,unlessthestudentisonwarningorhasprevaileduponappealresultinginastatusofprobation.WARNINGStudentswhofailtomeetminimumrequirementsforattendanceoracademicprogressareplacedonwarningandconsideredtobemakingsatisfactoryacademicprogresswhileduringthewarningperiod.Thestudentwillbeadvisedinwritingontheactionsrequiredtoattainsatisfactoryacademicprogressbythenextevaluation.Ifattheendofthewarningperiod,thestudenthasstillnotmetboththeattendanceandacademicrequirements,he/shemaybeplacedonprobationand,ifapplicable,studentsmaybedeemedineligibletoreceiveTitleIVfunds.PROBATIONStudentswhofailtomeetminimumrequirementsforattendanceoracademicprogressafterthewarningperiodwillbeplacedonprobationandconsideredtobemakingsatisfactoryacademicprogresswhileduringtheprobationaryperiod,ifthestudentappealsthedecision,andprevailsuponappeal.Additionally,onlystudents

whohavetheabilitytomeettheSatisfactoryAcademicProgressPolicystandardsbytheendoftheevaluationperiodmaybeplacedonprobation.Studentsplacedonanacademicplanmustbeabletomeetrequirementssetforthintheacademicplanbytheendofthenextevaluationperiod.StudentswhoareprogressingaccordingtotheirspecificacademicplanwillbeconsideredmakingSatisfactoryAcademicProgress.Thestudentwillbeadvisedinwritingoftheactionsrequiredtoattainsatisfactoryacademicprogressbythenextevaluation.Ifattheendoftheprobationaryperiod,thestudenthasstillnotmetboththeattendanceandacademicrequirementsrequiredforsatisfactoryacademicprogressSatisfactoryAcademicProgressPolicycont'd.orbytheacademicplan,he/shewillbedeterminedasNOTmakingsatisfactoryacademicprogressand,ifapplicable,studentswillnotbedeemedeligibletoreceiveTitleIVfunds.RE-ESTABLISHMENTOFSATISFACTORYACADEMICPROGRESSStudentsmayre-establishsatisfactoryacademicprogressandTitleIVaid,asapplicable,bymeetingminimumattendanceandacademicrequirementsbytheendofthewarningorprobationaryperiod.INTERRUPTIONS,COURSEINCOMPLETES,WITHDRAWALSIfenrollmentistemporarilyinterruptedforaLeaveofAbsence,thestudentwillreturntoschoolinthesameprogressstatusaspriortotheleaveofabsence.Hourselapsedduringaleaveofabsencewillextendthestudent’scontractperiodandmaximumtimeframebythesamenumberofdaystakenintheleaveofabsenceandwillnotbeincludedinthestudent'scumulativeattendancepercentagecalculation.Studentswhowithdrawpriortocompletionofthecourseandwishtore-enrollwillreturninthesamesatisfactoryacademicprogressstatusasatthetimeofwithdrawaliftheyareacceptedback.APPEALPROCEDUREIfastudentisdeterminedtonotbemakingsatisfactoryacademicprogress,thestudentmayappealthedeterminationwithintencalendardays.Reasonsforwhichstudentsmayappealanegativeprogressdeterminationincludedeathofarelative,aninjuryorillnessofthestudent,oranyotherallowablespecialormitigatingcircumstance.Thestudentmustsubmitawrittenappealtotheschoolonthedesignatedformdescribingwhytheyfailedtomeetsatisfactoryacademicprogressstandards,alongwithsupportingdocumentationofthereasonswhythedeterminationshouldbereversed.Thisinformationshouldincludewhathaschangedaboutthestudent’ssituationthatwillallowthemtoachieveSatisfactoryAcademicProgressbythenextevaluationpoint.Appealdocumentswillbereviewedandadecisionwillbemadeandreportedtothestudentwithin30calendardays.Theappealanddecisiondocumentswillberetainedinthestudentfile.Ifthestudentprevailsuponappeal,thesatisfactoryacademicprogressdeterminationwillbereversedandfederalfinancialaidwillbereinstated,ifapplicable.NONCREDIT,REMEDIALCOURSES,REPETITIONSNoncredit,remedialcourses,andrepetitionsdonotapplytothisinstitution.Therefore,theseitemshavenoeffectupontheschool'ssatisfactoryacademicprogressstandards.

TRANSFERHOURSWithregardtoSatisfactoryAcademicProgress,astudent’stransferhourswillbecountedasbothattemptedandearnedhoursforthepurposeofdeterminingwhentheallowablemaximumtimeframehasbeenexhausted.AlthoughthispolicyisincludedinthisFirstDayHandbook,youshouldhavereceivedacopyofthispolicyatyourpreenrollmentinterview.8-2107jc

RefundPolicyRefundPolicy:Thispolicyappliestoallapplicantrejections,terminationsforanyreason,byeitherparty,includingstudentdecision,courseprogramcancellation,orschoolclosure.Cancellationorwithdrawalshalloccurontheearlierofthedatesthat:

a. Anapplicantisnotacceptedbytheschool.Theapplicantshallbeentitledtoarefundofallmoniespaid,excluding$100.00applicationfee.

b. Astudent(orlegalguardian)cancelstheirenrollmentinwritingwithinthreebusinessdaysofsigningtheenrollmentagreement.Inthiscaseallmoniescollectedbytheschoolshallberefundedexceptingtheabovementionedapplicationfee,regardlessofwhetherornotthestudenthasactuallystartedclasses.

c. Astudentcancelstheirenrollmentafterthreebusinessdaysofsigningthecontractbutpriortostartingclasses.Inthesecasestheyshallbeentitledtoarefundofallmoniespaidtotheschoolexcepttheapplicationfeeintheamountof$100.00

d. Astudentnotifiestheschooloftheirwithdrawalinwritinge. Astudentonanapprovedleaveofabsencenotifiestheschoolthattheywill

notbereturning.Thedateofwithdrawalshallbetheearlierofthedateofexpirationoftheleaveofabsenceorthedatethestudentnotifiestheschoolthatthestudentwillnotbereturning.

f. Astudentisterminatedbytheschool.(Unofficialwithdrawalswillbedeterminedbytheinstitutionbymonitoringattendancedaily.)Studentswhoareabsentfor14consecutivedayswillbeterminatedandrefundcalculationwillbebasedonlastdateofattendance.

g. Intype2,3,4or5,officialcancellationsorwithdrawals,thecancellationdatewillbedeterminedbythepostmarkonthewrittennotification,orthedatesaidnotificationisdeliveredtotheschooladministratororownerinperson.

h. ThereturnofTitleIVfundsasprescribedinSection484BoftheHEAAmendmentsdeterminestheamountofTitleIVaidastudenthasearnedatthetimeastudentwithdraws.TheamountofTitleIVaidastudenthasnotearnedisthenreturnedtotheTitleIVprograms.Itisaproportionalcalculationbasedonthedateofwithdrawalthroughsixtypercent(60%)ofthepaymentperiod.Allrefundsarebasedonscheduledhours.

i. Forstudentswhoenrollandbeginclassesbutwithdrawpriortocoursecompletion(after3businessdaysofsigningthecontract),orstudentswhohavebeenexpelled,thefollowingscheduleoftuitionearnedbytheschool

a. Theinstitutionwilldeterminethedateofwithdrawalandthendeterminethepercentageofthepaymentperiodattendedbythestudent.

b. TheinstitutionwilldeterminetheamountofTitleIVaidforwhichthestudentwaseligiblebythepercentageoftimeenrolled.

c. Theinstitutionwillcomparetheamountearnedtotheamountdisbursed.Iftheamountofaiddisbursedexceedstheamountearned,thisamountofTitleIVaidmustbereturned.

d. Theinstitutionallocatestheresponsibilityforreturnedunearnedaidbetweentheschoolandthestudentaccordingtotheportionofdisbursedaidthatcouldhavebeenusedtocoverinstitutionalchargesandtheportionthatcouldhavebeendisburseddirectlytothestudentonceinstitutionalchargeswerecovered.

e. Theinstitutionand/orthestudentmustthendistributetheunearnedTitleIVaidbacktotheTitleIVprograms.

Acancellationfeeof$150willbechargedforstudentswhowithdraworterminateatanytimeduringtheirenrollment.Allcostofextraitemstothestudent,suchasbooksandtheinstructionalsuppliesorequipmentservicecharges,studentactivityfees,deposits,rentalandotherchargesneednotbefiguredinrefundcomputations,providedsuchchargesareitemizedseparatelyintheenrollmentagreement,catalogs,orinotherdatafurnishedthestudentbeforeenrollment.

PleasenotesuchitemsarerefundableunderthecircumstancesdescribedinItems7a,b,and,cabove.

Ifacourseiscanceledsubsequenttoastudent’senrollment,andbeforeinstructioninthecoursehasbegun,theschoolshallprovideafullrefundofallmoniespaidincludingapplicationfeeandanyunusedregistrationfeetotheStateofNH.Ifaschoolclosespermanentlyandceasestoofferinstructionafterstudentshaveenrolled,andinstructionhasbegun,theschoolwillprovideapro-ratarefundofallmoniespaid.Ifaschoolcancelsacourseand/orprogramandceasestoofferinstructionafterstudentshaveenrolledandinstructionhasbegun;theschoolshall

atitsoption:provideapro-ratarefundforallstudentstransferringtoanotherschoolbasedonthehoursacceptedbythereceivingschool.Theschoolmayretainarefundof$25orlessthatwouldbeallocatedtoaTitleIVprogram.Thestudent’srightsunderthisagreementmaynotbeassignedtoanyotherperson.Itemsofimportance:AstudentshouldprovidewrittennotificationtoKeeneBeautyAcademyofhisorherwithdrawal.Inthecaseofdisablingillnessorinjury,deathinthestudents’immediatefamily,oranyotherdocumentedmitigatingcircumstances,areasonableandfairrefundsettlementwillbemade.Ifacourseand/orprogramiscanceledsubsequenttoastudent’senrollment,andbeforeinstructioninthecourseand/orprogramhasbegun,theschoolshallprovideafullrefundofallmoniespaid.Ifpermanentlyclosedornolongerofferinginstructionafterthestudenthasenrolled,theschoolwillprovideaproratarefundoftuitiontothestudentORprovidecoursecompletionthroughaprearrangedteachoutagreementwithanotherinstitution.StudentswillbenotifiedofamountofTitleIVbenefitstheycanexpecttoreceive,andwhen,viaa“PreliminaryAwardLetter”TherefundtothestudentmayexceedtheMinimumTuitionAdjustmentSchedule.Ifastudenthas14consecutivedaysofabsence,notdocumentedasaleaveofabsence,KeeneBeautyAcademywillwithdrawthatstudentfromenrollment.ThelastdateofacademicattendancewillbedeterminedbyKBAfromourattendancerecords.ThestudentmayprovidewrittennotificationtoKBAoftheirwithdrawalpriortothedatethatKBAwouldnormallydeterminethatthestudentwithdrew.Thedateofdeterminationisthedateofthenotification.Ifastudentwithdrawsfromenrollmentwithoutnotifyingtheadministration,KeeneBeautyAcademywillmakeanynecessaryrefundswithin45calendardaysofthestudent’slastdayofphysicalattendance.
