ProgramOverview

TutoringServicesoffersacademicsupportinavarietyofsubjectsinordertoimproveeducationalachievement.TutoringisavailablefreeofchargetoallRowanSOMstudents.Small-grouptutoringisavailableinmostsubjectareas.Studentsmayself-scheduletutoringappointmentsusingtheTutorDirectoryprovidedontheRowanSOMBlackboardsite.

TutoringsessionswillbeGROUPtutoring,only.Individualtutoringmaybeconsideredbasedonareferralfromfaculty/CTLandmustfirstbeapprovedbyStudentAffairs.Tutoringsessionswillbeheldto5hoursperday,pertutor;20hourperweekmaximum.

SUMMARY:TheAcademicAffairstutoringprogramprovidesfreelearningsupportintheformofpeer-to-peercontenttutoringforSOMcourses.Tutoringsessionsmaybeheldone-on-oneorinsmallgroups.ESSENTIALDUTIES:• Provideacademicsupportintheformofpeer-to-peertutoringandmentoring• Assistwithmedical-sciencestudyskills• Assistwiththeassimilationofmedical-sciencesubjectcontent• Assistwiththeintegrationofmedical-sciencesubjectcontentacrossthemedicalcurriculum• Assistwithquizpreparation• Assistwithexampreparation• Assistwithboardspreparation

EligibilityAllemployeesMUSThavean85orhighertotutorinasubject.

AllPBLstudentsMUSTreachouttoDr.Steinforapprovaltotutor.

QualificationsSOMtutorsmustbecurrentSOMstudentsingoodoverallacademicstanding. Specifically, inordertotutoraspecificcourse,atutormusthavea)takentheSOMcourseforthatsubject,b)earnedagradeofHonors(H)orHighPass(HP)forthecourse(s)forwhichthestudentishired,andc)meetanyadditionalrequirementsdeemednecessaryfortheDirectororChairofthecourse(s).

TutorResponsibilityAgreement• Iunderstandallsessionswillbegroupsessionsandshouldconsistoftwoormorepersons.• Iunderstandthatitismyresponsibilitytoarrangetutoringsessionswithmyscheduledtuteesdirectly

andthatIwillneedtoinformSAAEintheeventthatIhavebeenunsuccessfulinarrangingtomeetwithmytutee.

• Iwillbeontimeandpreparedforeachtutoringsession.• IwillprovidemytuteewithadvancednoticeifIneedtocancelatutoringsession.• Iunderstandthattutoringsessionscannotexceed5hourspersession,perday.(Tutorsmayonlytutor

5hoursperday;20hoursperweekmaximum).• IunderstandthatIwillbepaidonanhourlyrate($17)throughtheFederalWorkStudyProgram.• Iagreetocompletemytutoringlog immediatelyaftermytutoringsession, includingthesummary

andoutlineoftaskssection,andallneededidentificationnumbersandoriginalsignatures• I agree to accurately report my hours on my tutoring log and Web Time Entry timesheet and

understandfailuretodosocouldresult indisciplinaryaction.Studentswhofraudulentlycompletetimecardswillbesubjecttodisciplinaryaction,terminationfromallUniversityFederalWork-Studyemployment programs, loss of eligibility for all financial assistance, and referral to the U. S.Department of Education for criminal prosecution. Students so identified will be referred to theAssistant Dean for Student Affairs for disciplinary action,whichmay result in expulsion from theUniversity.

• Iagreetosubmitmytutoringhours inatimelyfashionaccordingtothescheduletheCoordinatorprovides.

• IagreetorespondtoanyevaluationsandsurveyssenttomebySAAEtoratemyexperienceasatutorandforanyothermattersregardingthetutoringprogram.

• Iamawarethatparticipationinthetutoringprogramasatutorshouldnotinterferewithmyacademicsuccess and IMUST remain in good academic standing to participate. It ismy job to inform theCoordinatorifthisstatuschanges.

•StudentswillnotbeofferedorgrantedtutoringthroughtheRowanSOMtutoringprogramfortheirfirstattemptatCOMLEX.Itisexpectedthattheyprepareusingtheirprepcourseandanyotherresourcestheywish.

•StudentswhorequesttutoringandarenoteligiblecanbegivenalistofresourcestoobtainprivatetutorsthroughCTL.

•StudentswillonlybeofferedtutoringthroughtheRowanSOMtutoringprogramifitismandatedbyStudentAcademicProgressCommitteefollowingaCOMLEXfailure.Eventhen,itisexpectedthatmoststudentswhofailCOMLEXwillbesenttoanimmersioncourse,someofwhichofferprivatetutoring.
