Management

– Implemented annual recruitment plan.• Increased the ACT for

first-time-in-college direct from high school (FTIC DHS).

• Increased all new undergraduate first-time enrollment.

• Increased FTIC DHS Missouri student enrollment.

• Increased new transfer enrollment.

• Increased the number of new full-time non-traditional students.

– Restructured VIP Visit Days (now Open Houses) in order to make faculty a center focus of the campus visit days.

– Created a one-stop, web-based account for students that integrates admissions, housing, financial aid and scholarships.

• Griffon Edge was updated to support students beginning their university experience.

• 692 Griffon students participated in five neighborhood groups in the Mid-City Excellence area.

• Students provided over 3,000 hours of community service.

– Developed a comprehensive assessment plan. • Submitted research to the Journal

of College Student Development for publication.

• Published in Volume 4 of the HLC's 2006 publication: The Future-Focused Organization: Quality Assurance, Quality Improvement.

– Successfully launched a regional Conference on Applied Learning in Higher Education.

– Named to the Campus Compact President’s Higher Education Community Service.

• Received “Distinction for General Community Service.”

• Received an Institution-Wide Campus Compact Grant in 2005-06.

• The Applied Learning Director was selected as a finalist for the Thomas Ehrlich Faculty Award.

– Funded (SPIF) faculty/student teams to participate in Summer Research Institute.

• Included the team that competed at MIT and received first place in Best Oral Presentation and three other awards at the International Genetically Engineered Machines jamboree.

– Student achievements • Two of three psychology students who

presented research received first place awards at the Great Plains Student Psychology Convention.

• Two teams of nursing majors presented research at the Mosby Faculty Development Institute.

• An art student received first place for her graphic design portfolio at the American Institute of Graphic Arts.

• A student in political science was named the National Nontraditional Student of the Year by the Association for Nontraditional Students in Higher Education.

• Student Achievements• A chemistry student presented her

work at the Conference on Analytical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy.

• A student athlete was named to the ESPN Academic All-American team.

• A student graduated from the ROTC Leadership Development and Assessment Course at Fort Lewis, WA with the top rating of “excellent.”

• The certification pass rate for students graduating in health information technology was 16% percent above the national average.

Information Technology

– Implemented storage area network and residence hall network upgrade, and began replacing high-speed data network switches.

– Upgraded Banner version 6.X to version 7.X.

– Facilitated successful completion of the FCC mandated transition of Western's Instructional Television Fixed Service (ITFS) to the new Educational Broadband Service (EBS) frequencies.

– Successfully evaluated and implemented the Classroom Response Systems (clickers).

Facilities and Grounds

– Completed the LEMAP assessment of our campus safety and security operations.

– Completed the Facilities Condition Audit for all our major facilities and operating systems.

– Began implementation of the Computerized Custodial Assessment Program with Hillyards, Inc.

– Completed a comprehensive signage and way-finding proposal for the campus.

Image and Advancement

– Prepared a long-range marketing plan.

– Evaluated Marketing and Public Relations branding and strategic messages.

– Communicated the “Western Advantage” to targeted audiences.

– Communicated the quality of Western’s commitment to applied learning and excellence in student.

– Created Western Reports as a bridge to the community and to enhance programming on Channel 39.

Image and Advancement

• Created Development Council to coordinate development activities on campus.

• Secured funding for University Plaza.

• Developed Discover Gold alumni campaign with ads and framed photos on campus.

• Increased alumni chapters and regional events.

• Received the Governor's Award for Collaborative Excellence in Workforce Development for the "Another Smart Move" at the Governor's Conference on Workforce Development.

• Developed the Institute for Industrial and Applied Life Sciences as a joint public and private cooperative effort to enhance life sciences training in the Midwest and beyond.

• Developed Downtown Center for outreach into the community.

• Recognized by Learn and Serve America as an institution on the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll with Distinction for General Community Service.

• Reported a combined total of 38,268 hours of employee volunteer service to communities in the region.

• Western employees held 154 positions as board members or officers.

Budgeting

– Completed in-depth analysis of the physical condition of all major operating systems, for all academic facilities, linking capital needs to University priorities.

– Purchased a software package that will create a standardized format for University policies and prototype for posting website policies.

– Reviewed and reorganized student employment program.
