CAPE MEASURES THE POTENTIAL ENERGY OF AIR BY CALCULATING THE AVAILABLE HEAT AND MOISTURE IN AN AIR POCKET AND COMPARING IT TO THE SURROUNDING ENVIRONMENT.

What is CAPE?
IF AN AIR PARCEL IS HOTTER AND MORE MOIST THAN THE AIR SURROUNDING IT, THE AIR PARCEL WILL RISE BECAUSE IT IS LESS DENSE.
AIR PARCELS WILL CONTINUE TO RISE UNTIL THE TEMPERATURE AND MOISTURE CONTENT (DENSITY) OF THE PARCEL MATCH THE ENVIRONMENT.
