Bhilai Steel Plant, located in Bhilai, chattisgarh is India’s only producer of rails, and is a major producer of steel plates and structural components. Nine - time winner of Prime Minister's Trophy for best Integrated Steel Plant in the country. With an annual production capacity of 3.153 MT of saleable steel, the plant also specializes in other products such as wire rods and merchant products. Bhilai Steel Plant manages a well planned township (Bhilainagar) which as 13 sectors. Bhilai Steel Plant have two power plant and one power plant with joint venture with NTPC.

BHILAI STEEL PLANT

About Bhilai Steel Plant

SIX ELECTIRICAL DEPATMENT IN BSP:

PSD (Power Supply distribution)

ERS (Electrical Repair Shop)

TP&I (Technical Planing & Inspection)

HME (Heavy Maintanance Electrical)

CRM (Capital Repair Maintanance)

Energy cells

Sail is five place in india:

Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) in Chhattisgarh

Durgapur Steel Plant (DSP) in West Bengal

Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) in Orissa

Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) in Jharkhand

IISCO Steel Plant (ISP) in West Bengal

THERMAL POWER PLANT

A thermal power station is a power plant in which the prime mover is

steam driven.

Water is heated, turns into steam and spins a steam turbine which

drives an electrical generator .

Electric power plants typically use three-phase or individual-phase

electrical generators to produce alternating current (AC) electric power

at a frequency of 50 Hz.

Bhilai Steel Plant have two thermal power plant PP-1 &PP-2.

Power plant-1 has capacity of generate power 25MW & Power plant-

2 has capacity of generate power 75MW.

Power plant-3 is 50:50 joint venture between Steel Authority of India

Ltd. (SAIL) and National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd. (NTPC Ltd.);

manages the captive power plant Bhilai.

Its has installed capacity is 500 MW (2 x 250 MW Units) power plant

at Bhilai.

SUB-STATION

The place where power come first and distributed by steping up and

steping down. These are generally known as substation. Bhilai steel plant

substation may be classified in six part:-

1.MSDS-1

2.MSDS-2

3.MSDS-3

4.MSDS-4

5.MSDS-5

6.MSDS-6

MSDS 1 & MSDS 2 are main sub station and distribute the supply to

other MSDS.

These MSDS supply power to various small sub station in 11kv or 6.6kv

near big mills like Rail mill, merchant mills, rod mill etc.

In these mills step down the voltage for there required voltage.

Incoming Feeders in MSDS-1 & MSDS-2:

1. BBRS(132-KV)

2. KHEDAMARA(132-KV)

3. POWER PLANT-1

4. POWER PLANT-2

5. POWER PLANT-3

Outgoing Feeders in MSDS-1 & MSDS-2:

1. MSDS-4 (132-KV two line)

2. MSDS-3 (132-KV two line)

3. MSDS-5 (132-KV two line)

4. MSDS-6 (132-KV two line)

Different Equipment of Switchyard:-

1. Lightning arrester

2. Isolator

3. Circuit breaker

4. Transformer

5 Current Transformer

Lightning Arrester

DEFINIATION:-

Lightning Arrestor is a device, which protects the

overhead lines & other electrical apparatus like transformer from over

head voltages & lighting.

Every instrument must be protected from the damage of lightning

strokes.

The three protections in sub stations are essential:

1. Protection for transmission line from direct strokes.

2. Protection of power station or substation from direct strokes.

3. Protection of electrical apparatus against traveling waves.

ISOLATOR:

DEFINIATION:-

A device which is used for protection of electrical

equipment from over voltage and over current.

Isolator for a 3-phase system must be operated all together.

One contact arm has a male contract while other has female contact.

Insulation supports contact arms.

Contacts are made or broken by motor operated mechanism.

When contact is to be opened then both arms are rotated in opposite

direction so that contact is broken.

CIRCUIT BREAKER(CB):

DEFINIATION:-

Automatic switching during normal or abnormal

conditions.

TYPES OF CB:

1. SF6 Circuit Breaker

2. Oil Circuit Breaker.

3. Air Blast Circuit Breaker

4. Vaccum Circuit Breaker

SF6 Circuit Breaker:

SF6 is not flammable and toxic

like oil.

It is easier to handle, maintain and

repair equipment fill with SF6.

SF6 has the property that

disassociated molecules recombine

rapidly after the sources of arcing is

removed when superior arching

occurs.

Oil Circuit Breaker

In bulk oil circuit breaker

transformer oil is used which

serves 2 purposes:

1. Media for extinguish arc as

well as for

2. Provide insulation between

current carrying parts and

metallic tank.

Air Blast Circuit Breaker:

In this type of circuit breaker compressed air is used as an arc

extinguishes medium.

In these circuit breakers arc is subjected to air blast axially or the arc.

The air blast cools the arc and sweeps away the arcing products to the

atmosphere.

This rapidly increases the dielectric strength of the medium between the

contacts and prevents the re- establishing the arc.

Consequently, the arc is extinguished and flow of current is interrupted.

Transformer:

DEFINIATION:-

Transformer

is an A.C. machine that transfers

electrical energy from one

electrical circuit to another.

Current Transformer

DEFINIATION:-

To step-down

currents for measurement,

control & protection this type of

transformer is called current

transformer(C.T)
